Xbox team has announced the new regional migration service which allows you to change your Xbox Account Country to a new one if you have moved to a new place. This comes in handy if you are planning to move to a new location for longer period and want to take benefits of regional features of Xbox.

IMO this is most useful if you moved to US where most of the Xbox services work or if you had your country set incorrectly. Below is the Video Demo.

Few things you should know before migration :

Some of the services which aren’t available in the new region will stop working or will be limited.

All your MS Points, Live Gold membership period will be migrated.

In case you are attached to a Family Pack, some features will behave differently if they are restricted for any reason.

Some digital content like music, video or even games which are only available for a particular region will become unavailable or wont work any more.

How the migration process works ?

Go to https://live.xbox.com/AccountMigration and login with the account you want to migrate.

Once you login, you will have to verify usrself using a code which will be sent to the email account that is associated with that account.

Next, you will get a list of things that will be moved with you and list of things that will not.

The next screen, you will be able to select a country you want to move in. Then use the accept button to start the process.

Done this, you will have to accept new terms and conditions and your account will be moved instantly.

You can understand this because the URL in your browser will have the new country code e.g. IN was for me which stands for India.

The best of the migration process was it was so damn fast. No paperworks, no waiting time. All it required was three steps.

What is Xbox Smartglass :

In simple words, you can now ditch your controller for most of the things except playing games with Xbox. This app is a natural extension of Xbox 360 making it possible to control your Xbox from any mobile device. Yes, you got it right, the app is available for Android, iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone along with Windows 8 Touch enabled devices.

So is it only a remote control ? Actually that’s where everyone including me went wrong. Like I said its a natural extension which means it not only lets you ditch the controller but also lets you view all your Xbox gamertag details, view information about games, find more detail about the game you are playing right now, and its even extended to Music and Videos.

The App is available in respective marketplace, just make a search for Xbox Smartglass.

How to use Smartglass app with Xbox 360 :

Once connected, you should see Xbox Smartglass Remote on the Home section of the app on your phone. If its not there, it should be asking you to connect. Launch the remote by hitting the Play link.

Basics :

Once you do that, a touchpad like area and a controller buttons X,Y and B, shows up. This will be used to move to different sections of Xbox Dashboard, the experience is similar to using Kinect.

There is also a switch option in the menus, which changes the mode of Smartglass between :

Guide : This launches the Xbox guide, the same system blade, which appears, when you press the guide button on Xbox

Controller : Like said above, gives you access to buttons on the regular controller

Browser : This gets active when you are using IE on XBOX

Keyboard : Use this when you need to type in somewhere. However, most of the time it automatically launches as soon as you select somewhere typing is possible.

How to use Smartglass App to use IE 10 on Xbox :

Launch IE on your Xbox while the Smartglass is connected. This will launch the browser mode automatically within the app where you get these options :

Touchpad like area used for moving the cursor with side scroll.

Back Button

Address Bar with small reload button.

Open Web Hub

Option to open webpage from IE on Xbox to your mobile device.

Using it is easy, just type in the address bar and it will open the webpage on your Xbox. Then you can use your mobile device like a mouse and do most of the things you can do with the browser. For mew ore details on this checkout our IE Review for Xbox.

Also in case you want to open the webpage, which is already open on Xbox, to your mobile device, just hit the small button which looks like an Arrow over a rectangle or “Play Here” and it will launch in your mobile device’s native browser.

Video Demo :

Watch on YouTube

Exclusive for Windows Phone

Windows Phone 8 shares its browsing history with Xbox using smartglass which virtually means your browser session on the tablet is also shared or anywhere you are using Windows 8 with IE as your main browser.

You can send a webpage from IE on Windows Phone to Browser on Xbox by suing the Share Option and then selecting Xbox.

How to launch games / apps using Xbox Smartglass :

Sending a message to multiple friends is something you should be doing often either to set up a game party or when online and you want to join in an existing party, but you need an invite. Now we all know that it’s a big time pain if you need to send the same message to all your friends , worst part, you are using controller for that.

Pro Tip for Novice Gamers :

You can connect any USB keyboard with your XBOX and its much faster than using controller. Though there is a keyboard accessory that comes for Xbox which is not only portable, but also designed for Xbox usage, however, sending message using any regular keyboard is just equally awesome.!!

It is best to use a portable device like iPad or iPhone or Android or Windows Phone to send message as it is easy to type in there.

Back to topic, The real question of the day is to send SMS to multiple users and here is what you can do.

Using Xbox :

Select one of your friends to whom you want to send a message and then choose ”Send Message” option. You can also reach this from Xbox Guide.

Then select Change Gamertags and add more recipients by checking on the check box next to the gamertag of the friend.

Once done, select B and you will see list of friends added in the message template.

The only drawback is there is no way to select all recipients or even search any by gamertag.

Using Mobile Apps for Xbox :

Microsoft has Xbox Live App for almost all the platforms which includes iPhone / iPad and Android and Windows Phone. While Windows Phone is still waiting for an update, rest of them support sending message where you can select multiple recipients and send them the same message.

So how do you send a message to your Xbox friends ? Do you use a Mobile or the web interface or use a keyboard ? Do share with us in comments.

Today Microsoft has started rolling out the new Dashboard update and it looks much better than its last year update because of better placement of features like Recently used items, ability to add apps, games music etc. to Home Section. It also has created a section for Xbox to advertise new upcoming games, all tailored according to your interest.

So here is the list of things you should notice and try out as you get the update. Like I said its being rolled out, so you may see it coming in next 2 weeks max.

My Pins : This is similar to Pin to Start except that’s it’s into a folder. You can pin contents like Movies, Websites, TV Shows, Apps etc. in one place for quicker access. This makes it a lot easy for you to access your favourite contents without getting lost in tons of tiles and menu options.

Recent : This is not something new but it has been positioned well this time and It gives you quick access to list of apps and games you had recently used. It keeps updating as you use, so if you need a permanent solution, use Pins.

Ratings : It is much easier to rate any content or app. All you will need is. go to details which is usually accessible through X button on the controller. You can give rating between one to five stars. The same place allows you to PIN and Unpin.

Add Location to your Console :

Location : Settings > System > Console Settings > Console name

If you have multiple Xbox in your house, you can choose to set location like Living Room, Family Room, Game Room or anything you like. This is useful when you use smart glass feature ( Like playing music from Windows to Xbox ), as it will show the name as you set here.

Enable / Disable Smartglass and Play To :

Location : Settings > System > Console Settings > Connected Devices

This feature enables you to Turn Smartglass feature on and Off on your Xbox. You can also choose if any other device can use Play to, to stream video and music. An option is available if you want to allow game interruptions.

Manage Exercise Info :

Location : Settings > Profile > Manage Exercise Info

This update now allows Xbox to centralize your exercise stats by collecting first the basic data like your age, height and eight and then adding fitness scores like calorie burned, time played, physical intensity of movement and feedback from physical activity.

Internet Explorer : This is one of the major changes on Xbox which brings a full screen visualization of webpage on your TV. You can browse, add favourites, keep it in sync with your other devices etc. Read our complete coverage on how to use it, shortcuts etc here.

Watch on YouTube

Powerful & Enhanced Search : Now Bing can help you find content according to Genre i.e Action, Comedy etc and that includes videos from YouTube.

Xbox Music : Microsoft recently announced Xbox Music service which is free streaming service and this will be rolled out with Xbox 360 dashboard update. You will also have option for Music subscription services and Music purchasing options. This will be more or less the same as Zune Pass but just rebranded. Read more about it here

This also means that all existing Zune Pass users will be getting an upgrade to Xbox Music and there are two features which will be of major interest :

Xbox Music will have cloud integration. This means all your Playlist and Music collection will be able to sync across multiple devices including Xbox and Windows 8 PC and Windows Phone 8 devices.

You will be able to import playlist from Xbox Music to Windows 8 PC and Tablets.

Finally a browser has come to your TV and if you had not liked browsing through your smart tv and Xbox had always been your priority, you will be happy about IE coming to Xbox and yes it works as good as IE on Windows 8 we had been using. The worst thing about IE is that you need a gold membership to use it.

How to get IE on Xbox ?

It should be pre-installed if you have the update but in case it’s not, Visit the App section which will have the Big Blue Tile with E, selecting which will download the app for you. Once installed, launch it and you should be viewing the Web Hub, explained next.

Web Hub :

This is more like an extra layer on top of any webpage which gives you access to menu options, address bar, buttons to add website to favourite, settings, list of recently visited websites with preview.

Right in the middle of the Web Hub you have three sections. Favourite gives you access to bookmarked sites, Recent for recently visited websites and Featured is section where Xbox recommends some websites you can check out.

Managing Bookmarked or Favourite Websites

It is also possible to edit website name of the pages you have bookmarked or added to favourite. When you are in favourite section, you can hover the mouse over the site name and tap on X which will give you the following option :

Edit Site name

Move to Front

Remove from favourites

IE Shortcuts :

Controller Shortcuts you can use :

Button A : Select or Enter or Return button.

Button B : Go back or Hide Web Hub and switch back to webpage you where on. It also brings in the small help to display controller option for A and Y.

Button Y : Keyboard when on web hub or bring in the Web Hub when on a web page.

Right Stick : Scroll and Pan

Left Stick : Move and if you press it, you can do smart zoom useful when you want to see something small or login pages.

Left + Right Bumper : (Favourites Alt + Tab ) Bring the favourites list with preview. Use left and right bumper to navigate left and right and then select any webpage in the list.

Left and Right Trigger : Hover the mouse pointer over any area and press RT to zoom in and let to zoom out.

Keyboard Shortcuts using Controller :

Space : Button Y

Backspace : Button X

Caps On / Caps Off : Press Left Stick.

Smartglass :

If you have a SmartGlass App on your phone or tablet, you can use it as alternative to controller to navigate, use the touch as mouse and tap to select.

Using Keyboard is pain when it comes to IE on Xbox like entering a website name on the address bar. So, its only the external devices that will help it out like your Phone or PC or iPad like devices.

IE 10 Settings on Xbox :

Turn Smartscreen on and Off.

You can choose to send browsing history to Microsoft to improve products and services.

Request for Mobile Web Page : Even though requesting for mobile optimized webpage does not make sense for a device which has TV sized output, in case you are on slow connection, make use of this feature.

Choose to use IE in Full screen mode or not.

Enable / Disable Cookies in Xbox

You also have an option to delete history of websites you have already visited on Xbox.

How to Disable IE or Web browsing on Xbox :

Location : Privacy > Change Settings > Customize > Web Browsing > Allowed or Blocked.

If you do not want to let anybody watch something nasty on your TV or keep kids off the web browser, this is how you disable it.

If you have seen tons of game play videos on YouTube and has always wondered how to get your Xbox 360 Game Play recorded and show it to the world, then today I am sharing how it should be done. Remember this is not a top-secret stuff but if you are new to this, you will love knowing about it.

What do you need :

Hauppauge HD PVR : This is a video recorder which means it can take any HD input and dump it to your PC in MP4 format. Advantage of using this :

Since it records in MP4 format, you don’t have to worry about conversion.

It does not need a high-end or powerful PC to work. Since everything is in the box, all it needs is pc enough to store that video.

It can even record TV Programs if you want to use it for other purpose.

Supports HD, 720 P, AVG and Optical Audio

Supports NTSC,PAL and SECAM which means it can be used in most of the countries.

It needs power to run (Not USB powered), has a 10 FT Cable to connect to your TV and USB out to connect to PC. It also comes with a software/ driver which will show you live preview of what is getting recorded and options to control it.

Rocketfish™ – HD Component Video/Stereo Audio Gaming Cable for Xbox 360 : Even though Xbox has an official HD Component Cable, this is recommended over it because it has Gold Plating which increase signal power which in turn helps in getting better quality, almost zero delay and is cheaper.

Unboxing Video : Thanks to one of my friend, I have both of this and I do record videos without any issues. Here is the unbox video with sample Xbox video which I have recorded using these devices.

Watch on YouTube

You can very well use the composite cables also without any issue if your TV does not support it. But if your TV does support it, a full HD over component is recommended.

How to set it up :

Connecting HD PVR with your PC

First install the software that comes in the CD along with the HD PVR package.

Next power up the HD PVR and connect the USB cable into your PC.

Select Record Movie on the software and it should display the device in the list.

You will get to see details like Resolution, Bit rate etc and in case the software throws an error saying that the device is busy, just unplug and plugin it back. You might need to turn off and turn on once.

Connecting the devices :

It pretty simple, The output of your Xbox gets into HD PVR and the output of HD PVR gets into TV or Monitor. A USB out from HD PVR gets into your PC where you use the software to record the video into a folder of your choice.

Detailed Video by Bucky :

All thanks & credit goes to this guy. He has well demonstrated how the video should be recorded and in-fact its because of him I am able to record all videos.

Watch on YouTube

Summary :

This solution does not come cheap as it will cost you 200$ for HD PVR and 32$ for Component cable but the reason I will suggest you to choose over a capture card as it not only needs a powerful PC for video processing but also the quality wont come out that great.

Since the HD PVR is packed with all hardware power required, it makes it easy to record and convert into MP4 and send it to your PC. Plus if you are spending this much, you make sure that you have the real need professional or hobbyist.

Many a times if you had played online games on your Xbox 360, you might have seen NAT information which could be strict, moderate or open type. For example in Gears of War 3, I have seen this setting when I try to join a game or a party.

What is NAT in simple words ?

In a network, when your internet is connected to your Router, and the router is one which takes care of connecting all devices to rest of the world. So imagine this as a person who answers all your phone calls and if it is for you, it will forward the call back to you. So in short, it knows where you are (IP address) and can identify if the information belong to you.

If your Xbox is connected over Wired network, you will face any NAT issues for sure.

Technically :

First it assigns IP address to your devices.

Second it acts as layer of sending information which was requested from any of the device back to the device when a reply is received. Since the router is open to the world, and your devices are behind it, it acts as Network Address Translator device to send information to the right person.

What has XBOX to do with NAT ?

Actually nothing. Xbox does not control it, its the router that’s responsible for controlling it. However, if the NAT type is strict, it will result in :

If you are in a game party where you are communicating with your friends over audio, you might not hear anything.

When looking for an XBOX game or party, your NAT type is checked, and if it is strict, you cannot join a party or your friends might not be able to join.

How to change NAT Settings ?

First I will suggest you to give your Xbox 360 a static IP address. This will help you with the steps ahead and makes sure that you don’t see lot of changes in NAT Type every time you turn your Xbox . This can be done in the Network configuration under System Settings.

The settings which I am talking about below may differ from router to router. So you will need to look around if you don’t find it straight. Also, you can apply all or one of the settings, but always check NAT type status after every change you make.

Login to your router and for that you will need to know your router IP address and username /password. Use Manual or Search on the internet for that.

Turn on UPnP :

This is the first thing you need to do. It is easy and has almost zero configuration required if your router supports It. UPnP makes it easy for devices to discover the services from devices from any other UPnP device which here is your Xbox 360.

NAT Filtering :

I have seen this kind of settings in few of the routers which allows to setup NAT filtering directly. For my router, Netgear, it has the option to either keep it open or secure. However to my luck, I could only change from Strict to Moderate after using it.

Port Forwarding / Port Triggering

This is another technique which routers support to let external services to connect to one of your device. Depending on what is supported, you need to setup for the following ports :

88

3074

53

80

1863

The last one is used by Kinect for voice chat or even when you are playing games.

DMZ

DMZ is something which can expose a computer or device IP address to the world including no restriction on any of the ports. This is insecure, but hacking into your Xbox is something that will happen when there is nothing to hack around. I am not a security expert, but If nothing else works for me, I will use this.

In DMZ settings, which could be under your WAN settings, you need to add the IP address of your Xbox. When you open it first, you will see that you can only add local IP address and that will be the last digit of your Xbox IP address.

If you are still wondering what DMZ is, then to surprise you, it has a military background where it is called as Demilitarized zone which is a gateway between two countries or boundaries.

Summary : These are your best chances to get your NAT to a stable one mode or keep it always open. This has worked for me, but I am yet to achieve a permanent open NAT but this has made sure that I do not get a Strict Nat type any more.

Windows 8 has a feature called as Play To which allows to play Digital Media to any Windows Certified DLNA device like XBOX 360 or a SMART TV which supports this feature.

While we have tried connecting to a Windows 7 PC using Media Centre but it was really a painful and longer process because of issues like Firewall and security restrictions, Windows 8 Play To has changed it drastically where connecting to a Xbox takes no time.

Connecting

Windows 8 :

Go to PC Settings > HomeGroup > Media Devices

Turn this on by selecting the toggle button. This will make sure that Windows 8 is visible to any DLNA compatible device on the same network.

This also makes sure that any shared content is accessible to that device.

Xbox :

Turn ON, Sign in to your profile.

Go to MY Apps and make sure you have the Music and Video Apps installed.

Select any of them and you should be able to see your Windows 8 machine listed as Machine-Name@yourliveid@microsoftaccount

If you can see that, you are all set but if you try to access, you might see nothing in the playlist or album section. So lets share it.

Sharing Music and Video :

By default, Windows 8 shares Library Content. In case you do not have anything there, right-click on your video or music folder and select Include in Library > Music or Video. This will make sure the folder is listed there.

Streaming Video and Music to Xbox :

Next repeat the steps using the My Apps > Music or Video App on your Xbox 360 and it should be listing all your folders, video and music files. You will be able to create the music playlist etc and keep using it.

Video Demo :

Watch on YouTube

Things to Notice :

One thing you will notice is even after you shutdown your Windows 8 PC, the computer will remain listed but will give connection error when you try to connect.

There is no way to remove it from the listing.

I haven tested it with a different profile. It should not be the case but it is possible that you can connect to your PC only using your profile. I will update this when I test it around.

Many of Xbox 360 gamers have a 4GB hard disk space and as we play different games on Xbox 360, a lot of updates, patches, temporary files are generated. As time passes by, you might not be playing that particular game any more but the space is still occupied.

So in this How to series today, we will learn how to clear up some space on your Xbox 360. Just to make sure, this process will not remove any of your Console Updates or any downloadable content or DLC from your Xbox 360. Also, it will not remove any gamertag which you have created on your console or any saved games which you have played.

Steps :

Go to System Settings > Storage. This will list down all the storage Hard Disk, USB or anything else.

Select one of the storage and press Y on your controller.

This will open up the device option which allows you to Rename, Format, Clear System Cache & Transfer Content.

Select Clear System Cache and it will clear the cache for all the storage on your Xbox 360.

It basically start the System Maintenance of Xbox 360 so make sure you do not turn off the device in between. Depending on various factors it may happen in few seconds or couple of minutes.

Just remember that it will remove game updates also and if you play a certain game for which the update was downloaded, you will be prompted again.

Video :

Apart from this, look for games which you do not play any more and delete them. Most of the times space is occupied by trial games which you had downloaded before and forgot to delete it.

Window 8 comes with an app called as Smartglass, recently released by Microsoft, which is a companion app for Xbox. This application can do tons of stuff depending if the game makers implemented it. Looking at Maps, Players Position, Weapons location etc are few such examples.

So lets say you are sitting along with your friend in your room, and you all planned to play Xbox. So instead of waiting for the game to start, you can just do it from your computer running Windows 8 and start playing the game without any wait.

Steps to launch game from Xbox :

Launch Games App on Window 8 and sign in.

Once done, you should list of games you recently played.

Select the game which you want to play and then select Play on Xbox 360.

Now when you do it for the first time, the Games App will check for the Smartglass App and if it is not found, it will ask you to download by providing you a direct link in the App store.

Once downloaded, All you need is make sure you are signed in to your Xbox and enabled the Xbox Companion Settings. To do this, visit Settings > System > Console Settings > Xbox Companion on your Xbox 360. Once the smart glass app finds your console and connects, you will get a message on your Xbox about that.

This application also lets your performance, your friends who recently played it and when in connected mode with the game you are playing, you get game specific theme with information about the game.

Settings up the Beacon :

Becon was introduced in the Modern Dashboard Update, and it allows you to setup a headlight on your avatar which your friends can see. So if you set a beacon of Gears3 which any of your friend get to see when they see your avatar, and know what you want to play. As a return, you also get notified about any of your friend who starts playing the same game.

There are two ways of doing it. One is from the Companion App, and the other from the games app.

Go to Games App.

Select the game for which you want to setup the beacon.

On the right hand side, you should see the list of friends who recently played that game.

Right above that you should see the option which allows you to set beacon or remove any existing ones.

Microsoft launched Outlook.com yesterday and with that many users have already rushed to create an email account ending with outlook.com. Some of you who rushed to change must have been warned and if you still haven’t, read it along.

What will happen to your Windows Phone when you rename existing Email Account :

Warning : So now if you have decided to move to a new Outlook Account and the account is already setup with your Windows Phone, Here is what you need to know :

Once you change, then on your phone, features that use this address will stop working, including Marketplace, Xbox LIVE, skydrive, email, and others.

To use these features again on your phone, you’d need to restore it to factory settings, which erases all personal content.

All of your other Microsoft account info—like contacts, photos and Office docs on SkyDrive—will also switch to your new address within a few days.

I guess this was one of the reasons we still don see the Calendar, Contact, Task Sync which started from yesterday.

There is now way to change Live Account on Windows Phone

Since we all know there is no way to switch Live Account, the only option is reset your Windows Phone which means you will lose the most important thing i.e. Text messages and there is no way to back up them, unless you have a unlocked phone to use the SMS Backup App but even then you cannot restore back.

Remember changing the Live ID using the Outlook Interface or using the https://account.live.com/ChangeId.aspx are same as they get to the same page.

The Easy Way :

Now if you are not aware, Microsoft Outlook also gives you option to migrate to a new outlook account or use an alias.

Migrating to New Account : Inbox > Mail Settings > Rename your Email address

Create Alias : Inbox Mail Settings > Create an alias.

Using the second option is much easy and has advantage of using both the email id, though you can login through the original one only, but it keeps things easy for you.

Second Method : Use your Xbox to Switch your Live Account

I remember that when I had an US based Live Account, I followed a couple of steps on Xbox which allows me to change Windows Live ID Associated with that gamer tag.

Since here we want to use our New Outlook Account and still have the association with gamertag, zune and billing intact, This is what you need to do on the Xbox.

Go to XBox Console & Signin with your Gamaertag

Go to Settings > Profile > Account security > Change Windows Live Id

You will be asked for current account password and then the new account password.

Once done, all your points, gamer points etc will be transferred to the new live account, which here is your Outlook Account.

I have detailed about this process here but that was more oriented towards freeing up association of Live Account with an old gamer-tag but the process is same. Once done, All your Zune, Gamertag, App Purchases will be synced with new one.

How to use voice/ kinect commands in ME3

If you are new to ME, it can be confusing when you are combat and you want to go faster and this is where these commands will help. For example when you run out of Ammo, you can say “Switch Weapon <name of the weapon>” where name of the weapon can be Shotgun etc.

Similarly when you are moving as a team and you want any of then to follow you just show out “<name of team member> follow”. Others can be “singularity” “Switch weapon” to switch between members and so on.

Download / Print Cheat sheet

And here is one for which you take a print out and tear it off in sections to paste it on all side.

Watching movie on your PC laying back and too lazy to get up and change to next or your Xbox controller battery drained off ? Worry not, Now it is possible for you to control your PC or Xbox 360 ( as extender ) using your Windows Phone using Windows Media Center.

Remotely Possible combines a windows client and Windows Phone app to work together to control Windows Media Center and if you run the Media Center App on Xbox, you can control that too if everything is over the same network to watch Movies, Listen to Music, Picture Slideshow, TV Shows and so on.

Apart from the the app maintains list of all recent plays so you can replay it without much of search. You can navigate to different sections of Media Center using the Naviagtion Pad, Volume control, Mute next play and so on. A complete control on your entertainment system.

Step 0 : Basic Requirements :

Make sure you have Windows Media Center installed and you have movies, songs etc setup.

You have configured your Xbox and Windows Media center on your PC to talk to each other.

Step 1 : Install the client software :

Download it from here.

Install and on first run it will ask to set up a password. Remember it.

Next run ipconfig on your computer and not the IP.

Launch Windows Media Center on your computer.

Step 2 : Install App on Windows Phone

Download the app from here.

On Launch it will ask you to configure Name of Your PC, IP Address, Password and Port.

Use the same Password you had set on the client and IP which you noted before.

Once you save it will check for connection, if you do not receive an error message you are set.

Step 3 : Using the App over your computer

Select Remote and you will get a navigation pad with left right down and up arrows. Use them and see if your Windows Media Center items change accordingly. If yes you are ready for next phase.

Step 5 : Connecting to Xbox

Xbox New update now allows you to setup what is called as Beacons which makes it easier for you to ask friends to play game along with you. This is like putting an invite board on your head, Just Kidding, but they technically are like the lights put on your head to grab attention from your friends.

So Becons on Xbox allows you to tell firends what you want to play and your friends can just click on Join Game in your profile in their Friend List to start playing the game. You can also Invite to Game from their detailed profile view.

Go to Social Menu in the header under which you will see your signed in profile

Select Friends > Beacon and Activity

How to Create new Beacons

Here you have Three tabs, Select the Beacons Tab which is symboized by a rising son.

There you can Set Beacons and your friends will be told about it automatically.

Select and Then choose an activity which is a game usually and then you can choose to add your comment and share it with social media like Facebook.

Select Set Beacon and you are done.

You should get a message which says “Beacon Set for <Game Name>”

The other two tabs are My Activity where list of 5 last played games are set in along with who has been playing it and the third tab is Friends Activity which tells you what games and apps they had been using.

Screenshots

[minigallery id="1684" style="box border box_white"]

Updating and Deleting

Go to the same place where you created Beacons.

Then select the beacon which you want to update or delete.

In detail view you will get option to Update or Delete Beacon.

How to Join A Game using Beacon of your friend ?

You dont actually do it but Xbox Live Does it for you by alerting you about the friends who are playing games you set a Beacon for on your console.

Next you can switch to Friends List, Find that Friend and Select Join Game

Windows Phone users can see the Beacons under Games > Xbox Live > Requests.

Video Demo

Here you will see an extra option which says Cloud Saved Games ( Configure Device ).

Click on that and you will get Option to Enable Cloud Saved Games or Disable them.

If you do not get any error you are done.

There are two requirements to enable this. First your account should have Gold Membership and second your Main Storage Device should have 500 MB Free Space.

How to move Saved Games to Cloud ?

Go to any of the saved games and select it.

Next you will get option to move / copy or Delete.

Select Move and choose Cloud Storage.

You are done.

You can confirm if the game is there by exploring the cloud storage.

How to Disable Cloud Storage ?

Select Cloud Storage and Press Y on your controller.

Select Disable option but make sure you have moved all your saved games on your main storage on your xbox.

How it Works ?

Xbox reserves 512 Mb Space from your main memory storage which is then used both as Offline Storage and Buffer to move your data to the cloud in background

So any game which is moved is first moved to this space which then uploads in the cloud in the background and even if you are not connected you can move your games from this could storage to your main storage and turn it off completely.

Finally after Xbox.com got an update with Metro Like Dashboard, Your Account has option to cancel or disable Automatic Renewal of your Xbox Live Gold Membership. Prior to his you had to call the Xbox Support to get it done but now its oppoiste. Once you change to Manual Renewal, you need to call Xbox Support Team to get it changed to Auto Renewal. However there is a way to get it turned on without calling the Xbox Support.

How to remove Auto Renewal ?

Login to your Xbox Account at Xbox.com

Select Social Tab and look for a option which says “My Account” right under your avatar.

When you go to My Account, You will see Automatic Renewal option with link to change it.

Go next and turn it off. You will get to read the following warning :

Once automatic renewal has been turned off your membership will not renew at the end of its term.

If you extend your membership by redeeming a prepaid code prior to the expiration of your current subscription, auto-renewal of your subscription will be reactivated.

If you’d like to reactivate automatic renewal, please call Xbox Support

So How to get it Auto Renewal Subscription Activated again without calling support

The catch here is that if you want to activate it back without calling Xbox Support, Find a code which can extend your membership i.e. Like a One Month Free subscription just before your membership is getting expired and it will switch to Auto Renewal.

After Cancellation you are asked why you wanted to confirm and I am sure what most people will give is that they wanted more control. I am sure many users who are away for sometime after the expiration can save some months.

Another thing you will notice is that if you click on Change right next to Auto Renewal, it will take you to Xbox Support Contact page where you need to select Billing and then go ahead with the change request.

Game Defaults mean common preferences like Controller sensitivity, Mirror Lookups, Auto aim, etc for all the games you are playing. This makes sure any game you play has these preferred choice and you don’t manually go and change.

This is again divided into categories like General, Action Racing. So for each category you can have a different set of defaults. So let us learn how you can set game defaults for your profile :

Make sure you are signed in your profile.

Then select profile and choose Game Defaults

Here you get to see the three categories which I had mentioned above.

Now select a category and choose and set all the options.

So for instance if you want Auto Aim to be on by default, set in on here and when you play the game, the preferences will be picked up from here.

Things that can be changed are Y-Axis, Movement, Auto-Aim, Auto-Center, Transmission, Camera Angle, Brake Control, Accelerator Control, Difficulty, Primary Color, Secondary Color, Controller Sensitivity

However one of the biggest drawback is if you change game defaults after you have already played the game then the game will not pickup the settings. Also if you change any defaults from within the game, it will override the Game Defaults set in your profile.

Video Demo to Set Game Defaults ( Watch on YouTube )

[styled_box title="" color="green"]

[/styled_box]

I wish someday Xbox will have API which will allow to create Game Default settings in a centralized place for each game. This will make sure that every profile will have their own game defaults and any changes made there will be picked up by the game from there.
