Microsoft is Force Testing Windows 10 Insiders to open links in Edge from within Mail App

In a very surprising move, Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 Insiders who are on Skip Ahead ring,  links opened from Windows 10 Mail App will be ‘forced’ to open in Microsoft Edge browser even if the default browser is to set to anything but Edge.

Microsoft claims that since

Edge offers best, most secure and consistent experience on Windows 10 and across your devices. With built-in features for reading, note-taking, Cortana integration, and easy access to services such as SharePoint and OneDrive, Microsoft Edge enables you to be more productive, organized and creative without sacrificing your battery life or security. As always, we look forward to feedback from our WIP community.

Even though Skip Ahead is a closed beta, the move itself is annoying. Microsoft Edge has not been the browser Microsoft expected to take off when Internet Explorer was rebranded, and it only holds 3-4% of market share which sends out a clear signal that consumers do want to use Chrome or Firefox.

I am pretty sure that this is not going to end well no matter what, and I won’t take favors. Both Google and Bing had tried their best to make people switch from each other browser. Try searching for Edge on Google and Chrome on Bing, and you will understand what I am trying to say here. What do you think of this move?
