Since Windows 10 release, there had been talks about everybody getting a free upgrade, and even pirated ones. While everybody thought, including us, think it is a great move, Microsoft have a different plan for Pirated Copy of Windows.
In an official blog post on “Genuine Windows and Windows 10”, Terry Myerson, said that anybody who has a license copy of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 will get a free upgrade, but those without it, will not be able to upgrade to Windows 10. Instead Microsoft is planning to offer some attractive Windows 10 Upgrade offer for Non-Genuine Windows copy. Once a customer upgrades, they will continue to receive ongoing Windows innovation and security updates for free, for the supported lifetime of that device.
That said, it is also being assumed that Windows 10 is going to the last version of Windows, and moving forward, it will become a Software as a Service. If thats about to happen, then Microsoft will be desperate to move everybody to Windows 10 so the advantage of having everybody on the same version can be shared among developers and consumers.
Microsoft will come up with more details on the offers they will extend to Non-Genuine Windows copy. We will keep you posted as we get to know more on this. More on Windows Blog
