Redstone 3 is coming in September 2017

The news which is coming from Redmond will surely make every Windows fan happy. No, this is nowhere related to Surface Phones! This is about Windows 10, and yeah it also includes Windows 10 Mobiles, so folks, Windows 10 Mobile is NOT DEAD! Coming to the news, Microsoft today announced that the company will be releasing major upgrades to Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus, twice a year.

According to the company, Windows and Office updates will be targeted in the month of September and March of every year. Microsoft says that, Windows 10, Office 365 ProPlus and System Center Configuration Manager make twice-a-year feature release schedules more manageable and predictable for easier enterprise deployments.

We all know that Microsoft launched Creators Update just weeks ago, and we also know that the company has already started working on the Redstone 3 update. One of the features that is coming with Redstone 3 is Power Throttle feature, about which we just reported yesterday. Other features include an improved design with Project NEON, Microsoft Edge improvements and so on.

In a blog post, the company explains:

  • Windows is committing to a predictable twice-per-year feature release schedule, targeting September and March of each year, aligning with Office 365 ProPlus. The next Windows 10 feature update will be targeted for September 2017.
  • Each Windows 10 feature release will be serviced and supported for 18 months. This is consistent with our current Windows 10 approach, but adds further clarity and predictability to organizations by aligning with Office 365 ProPlus.
  • In addition, System Center Configuration Manager will support this new aligned update model for Office 365 ProPlus and Windows 10, making both easier to deploy and keep up to date.

This indeed is a great move by Microsoft. The company will most probably be sharing more information about the next big Windows update in the Annual Developer Conference at Seattle.
