After HTC announced HTC 8S, their low-end Windows Phone 8 model, my initial impression were pretty bad but after thinking for a while, I was getting convinced that this model might become a successful Windows Phone 8 in its range.
Range that’s the idea!! HTC 8S has a pretty low hardware, doesn’t have a front end camera, low memory, low space and so on. Everything is pretty low which means the price will be even lower and will make it the cheapest priced Windows Phone 8, drawing a lot of attention.
Speculating the price of Other Windows Phone 8 Devices
If you keep in mind the hardware specs of Lumia 920 and 820 devices and Samsung ATIV S, they all are high-end devices with very nice configuration and space which will make the devices costly.
- Lumia 920 Price : If I keep in mind the Lumia 800 price, the Lumia 920 price should be at least 30% more.
- Lumia 820 Price : It’s much better hardware than 710, I can safely assume this device will cost at least the same price as Lumia 800 device.
- Samsung Ativ S : This is flagship phone and comparable to 920 and hence both will be around the same price.
This simply means that HTC 8S will price around half of Lumia 920 (almost) and with a nice hardware configuration 4″ LCD 2 display, 512MB RAM, 1Ghz Snapdragon dual-core chip, 5MP of rear camera, which has 720 P recording, and the awesome beats audio.
So for users who would like to get a nice phone at less price, this phone will pick up the demand.
Hot on UK Deals
WPCentral reported today that 8S is already on the hot list i.e. 959 degrees on Hot UK Deals, which points to the same direction.
Rethinking, HTC Actually planned a nice strategy. While everybody was coming with a powerful hardware configuration, it came out with a low-end model. In fact this is the first real low-end Windows Phone 8. Keeping the balance HTC has both a high-end and a low-end mode which will be priced low for sure.

A relatively smart strategy. I don’t know why anyone would settle for 480×800 res with WP8 though. That’s really the only thing I hate about my WP7.
Also, I read on a couple articles that it’s only a single core 1GHz CPU..? Need confirmation.
Listed as having an Adreno 225 GPU; it is a Snapdragon S4 SoC. As there is only 4 models that have this GPU, with each containing dual-core ‘Krait’ CPUs, I’d safely say that it is a dual-core.
My apologizes, it is actually contains the Adreno 305 GPU, so it is either a MSM8227 or MSM8627, depending on Radio used.
It may be considered ‘low-end’, but still packs a punch. 1GHz dual-core is nothing to scoff at. 512MB RAM should be decent enough. 5MP is rather standard these days, should offer a decent enough shot. A micro SD slot is a nice addition. Beats all current WinPho 7 hardware.
