Windows Phone Boot Loader has been unlocked & might upgrade those dropped Lumia Devices

Every time Windows Phone goes dead, somebody sparks a light of hope. Today, Windows Phone Hacker, Heathcliff74, and developer of Windows Phone Internals Tool announced a major update which unlocks access to the bootloader of all Lumia Devices. This tool allowed to run Homebrew app which came out in 2015.

Heathcliff74 also posted a video about this where he showed his two years of reverse engineering work is now a success. The phones are fully unlocked now, interop unlocked, and even privilege unlocked.

That said, as of now it doesn’t matter for many as they have already switched to Android or iOS, but then for those who still want to continue, and if the community can come together, it is possible that those devices which did not get the update can get the update. Imagine all those Lumias which were skipped for Windows 10 Mobile Update, and then Windows 10 Fall Update and so on, getting an upgrade to the latest OS.

It brings custom ROM’s, Mass Storage Mode, Root access and many more hacks to all Windows Phone 8 and Windows 10 Mobile-based Lumia-models. There is also a new Download-section in the tool, where you can download everyhing you need for your phone. Here’s a short demo:

That said, here is another interesting part of this tool. The developer claims that the tool is also ready for reverse engineering Windows Core OS. Microsoft is expected to roll out new category of devices next year, codenamed as “Andromeda”

  • This is great news! I am still sticking to my Lumia 720, but I prefer WP8.1 on it due to performance issues. Having said that, there is something wrong with the three capacitive buttons and I was thinking of rooting my phone to enable the virtual navigation bar. Lets see whether this new update can help me do that.
