10 Things to Know About the Email App in Windows Phone 8.1
#1 Attachment Preview :
Instead of a long file list, attachment preview can be seen for both emails which come with attachment or when you attach a file. They are listed horizontally instead of vertically and you can scroll left or right to see the preview. This is very handy for images and also vertical scrolling was annoying as you had to scroll up and down while reading an email.

#2 Always Download Images and Full Message:
So you waste less time, this option is available on per account basis. This is handy when an email is already in your inbox for sometime and you still have to wait for it to download. Mind it, you will spend more on data, so use it wisely.

#3 Download Emails based on your usage:
Now that auto download option is right there knocking on your data limit, you can smartly configure individual accounts to download emails based on how often you use them.
If you get a lot of email one day or don’t check your account for a few days, it will sync accordingly. This means business account syncs more often than your personal accounts. Saves bandwidth and battery both.

#4 Sound Notification for Each Email Account:
Though this is partially correct, it is possible to add a different sound notification per account basis if you are not using Linked inboxes. So what you can do is take off the important inboxes from the linked one and add notifications and custom sound or vibration to it.

Go to Settings > Notifications +actions and select your account.
#5 Emails have their own notification icon:
E-mails are most important, even than your twitter or Facebook mentions. In Windows Phone 8.1, there is a separate notification for new email, making sure you don’t miss them even on the lock screen, if configured other wise.

#6 Send Videos & Music files over Email:
You can do this from your music and video hubs. Long press over any song or a video and tap on share. Next step, select an email account and the file will be attached with preview of name, size and type.
When you do that, you would see the subject of the file would be same as the name of the file. However, Multiple files are still not supported.

#7 Gmail Calendars are Back
If you can just re-setup your Gmail account once more, the advance settings have details on connecting over to Gmail’s calendar and it uses CalDAV for that. It is also possible to change the URL for both CardDAV and CalDAV to troubleshoot the issues.
#8 Let Cortana Create Appointment from Email
Lets say if you have an email saying “Call Boss this Friday at 4 PM”, Cortana is smart enough to help you create an appointment.
When you open such emails, you would see them marked as blue. In this case, this Friday and 4 PM was marked, tapping on which an appointment with pre-filled data will be ready.

#9 Setting Up Accounts with Google:
Prior to update, if you have 2 step authentication enabled, you had to use a app generated password. Now you will have to authenticate with your Google account via web interface and then connect. This saves a lot of time and is much more convenient.
#10 Support for iCloud:
You can now use your iCloud mail account which makes it easier for people to switch and still use their apple account in Windows Phone.
