appSiege helps you decide which WP App to uninstall when running out of space

Running out of space is a common problem, be it on  a computer or a phone, luckily PC users still have an option to find which program is occupying space, but at least for Windows Phone there is no inbuilt option to find which app is taking more space compared to others. I seriously wish Zune was doing it but seems like not until the next version is released.

If you are wondering why one will be interested in this, then it comes extremely handy to figure out which app can be uninstalled, when in need to clear some space and second it gives you a sense how much space is being occupied by an app.

What does the app do?

App Siege Size DetailsSo here we have another impressive contribution for Homebrew Community, appSiege ( a.k.a App Size ), which lists all the apps with the amount of space occupied by them.  This app will need root permission to operate, and this is where the WP7 Root Tool, helps it out.

After you launch the app, list of the apps will get populated slowly one by one and since it does not show everything in one go but styled with slow animation, users don’t have to wait for unusually long. It can even display apps which take up size as big as 2Gb.

Requirement & Installation

To make use of this you will need a developer / Chevron  unlocked phone which is capable of running WP7 Root Tools which in turn needs your device to be Interop Unlocked.

Installing it is simple. Once you have downloaded the XAP, deploy it to your phone, make it trusted using the root tools. Then launch the app it should list all the apps along with the size details.

Features  :

  • Multiple select to see how much space apps take together.
  • Sort by Name, Install Size, Data Size.
  • Pie chart for selected app or random 10 apps which cane be configured.

Suggestions:

Since the app gets a trusted permission, the potential is even bigger.

  • A bar which can give a preview on how much space will be free when one or multiple apps are selected.
  • Ability to uninstall app using the context menu.
  • Ability to launch the app.
