Assassin’s Creed Unity Review

In its recent series of video games, Ubisoft, the same company who did the Far Cry 4, has a completely different story line with Assassin’s Creed Unit which takes you through the French Revolution which holds the bloodiest history of human civilisation.

Walking Undetected

The game has a slow start, which is so slow and needs you to be so careful that for first few hours it was really tough to get along. This is also the time when you actually admire the beauty of France of old times. During all this time, you will have to move silently among crowd, stay hidden from soldiers and guards and sneak into a lot of places. Its going to be tough as well. The best way to beat them off is to mix with crowd well. Run a little, and then mix with a group or hide into a corner or move into a building.

Assassin Creed Unity On Roof

Unity’s campaign will last between 20 to 25 hours depending on how you play, and while doing so you get all kind of missions which could be simple as finding someone to tough as dodging a sniper. So the best way won’t be to run and kill, but you will end up hiding more often, and sneaking.  Like I said before, there are tons of places to hide and sneak, make sure to identify them.

There are two things you will end up using more often. One is the trail of positions where you were last seen, which appears automatically when you are under threat, and second is the eagle view which tells you where the enemies are. The former helps you keeping the enemy distracted and they all coverage there. However make sure to stop running when you had found a suitable hideout. Eagle Eye can’t be used all the time, but recharges fast. Use it carefully.

AI is Smart Enough to Take you Down:

Honestly speaking, when I started playing this, It was really a mess. I was trying to take down lot of them together, drawing lot of attention, and thought running will help. This wasn’t working out because I was constantly pinned down by soldiers from other side. Then I realised that the AI was pretty smart enough to know how many men it will take me to get down or if I run, it can let know soldiers on the other end to trap me.

This almost feel like real-time situation and soldiers working together. You won’t find same kind of soldiers coming towards you. You will have to use a a combination and this is what makes the thing difficult. This also means, you need to hone your skills with sword and pistols. You need to understand what to use where.

The Changing Game Play:

Having multiple ways to complete a campaign is a norm now and almost every game is doing that. Unity is the same, but it has its own way getting things done. Unlike Far Cry 4 where an objective has to be met, Unity lets you go ahead at many places, but it makes the next level rather difficult. This is because how the story line is which makes this a possibility, but its challenging thing gamers would definitely love.

Most Frustrating Part:

Tailing a target is the most frustrating part of the game because if you do one thing wrong, get detected, you start over. It will make you feel that you should not be playing the game at all, unless you take a break. It will be a good idea to make it little easier and less annoying.

Verdict:

While the game packs in spectacular sights and crowd you had never seen in a game, IMO its little slow to be of everybody taste. It’s not that you will not enjoy it, but buy it only if you can take a slow game which will test you at many places. What I truly enjoyed was traveling from one place to another jumping over the walls and buildings and sneaking.
