Baconit’s BacoSync Syncs Reddit Links between Windows Phone and Browser, Allows to Send links to Phone

One of the smaller problems when visiting the same site using a browser and phone, specially when you browse popular forums like Reddit using one of their apps, is that they are not synced. This means if you already visited a thread using your phone the browser on your computer will never know about it.

Today we are happy to share BaconSync which makes sure that whatever you had visited on a Reddit syncs with the browser on your computer and vice-versa. This application, you guessed it, works in sync with the popular Baconit App for Reddit on Windows Phone.

BaconSync

BacoSync as a service will be integrated in the 2.3 version of Baconit App on your Windows Phone App and to make it work everywhere, install the chrome extension from here and if you are a beta tester, you might be already doing it.

How to use it ?

Setting it up :

  • Make sure the app and the extension are installed.
  • On your computer, signin to reddit first before using the extension.
  • Next hit the Bacosync icon and get started. It will automatically show your reddit profile, if you are signed in.
  • Then you need to create a device name and passcode which you will need to use it in the application on your phone.
  • Once done,  Go to Baconit App > Settings > BaconSync and setup the same device and account there.

Now the real syncing takes a bit of time so don’t just browse both on the browser and the phone at the same time to test it out and since there is no force sync, its not happening instantly.

Sending Pages :

Technically speaking the extension on your computer can send any webpage to the phone and not just the Reddit links. So if you send Reddit links, it opens the link the app itself but if its anything outside Reddit, it opens it in IE.

As of now BaconSync only works with Chrome, but soon will be available  for other browser. This is an excellent approach, and every application should provide such kind of extensibility.

As a matter of fact, BacoSync has its own API, so if you want to integrate this into your application,  get in touch with the developer here.

What else is coming in Baconit 2.3 ?

Apart from BaconSync, You have Flipview coming in which you can resume where you left in the app, image viewing is more interactive, full resolution, only image view etc and other changes include a lot of improvement in the app and user experience.

This release also includes improved Reddit Viewer which supports multiple instance of the same page to be open and in a week or two we should see extensions for other browsers coming in.
