Bit Raid for Windows Phone is a Great Retro Time Waster Game
If you are looking for a simple, single tap, retro style game—Try Bit Raid—which is an ultimate time waster. All you need to do is kill some pixels and save your base.
While I tried explaining the game in my own words, the developers send me across all the details and nothing explains it better. Enjoy
This is how the game works:
The green square is your bit-shield – that’s the only thing you control on the screen. The bit-shield is controlled by a single tap anywhere on the screen. The bit-shield jumps from one edge of the screen to another on each tap.
The blue rectangle at the bottom is your bit-base. The bit-base is on auto-pilot. Your job is to defend the bit-base while the bit-base is trying to capture as many (yellow) bit-gold as it can. The bit-base moves to come under the closest bit-gold to capture it.
How you make and loose points:
Each bit-gold captured is +3 points.
Any red things dropping down are bit-bombs. Bit-bombs can destroy bit-base, so you have to make sure to crush the bit-bombs with your bit-shield. Each crushed bomb is +1 points.
You should let the bit-gold through to reach the bit base. If the bit-shield crushes the bit-gold you get penalty -3 points.
The orange bits dropping down along edges are bit-dust. bit-dust can destroy bit-shield so you have to avoid getting hit.
The dark green bits dropping along the edges is a power up for bit-shield. once you capture one of the green bits.. you can take one hit from the bit-dust without getting destroyed.
You die in 3 ways:
- Bit-base is hit by bit-bombs.
- Bit-shield is hit by bit-dust (and you don’t have the green power up).
- Bit-base hits enough bit-gold that your score is reduced to 0 – some times its essential to crush/sacrifice a bit-gold to save the bit-base from a bit-bomb.
The game was originally developed over 48 hours (weekend) for New Mexico Game Jam a couple of weeks ago. Bit Raid, won the NM Game Jam and then was polished over 2 weeks.
