Cold Space Shoots in for Windows Phone; Its 1942 in Space

If you crazy to play aircraft based shoot’em up games which involves space, alien ships and sci-fi music, you would be glad to know that another popular Android Game has made its way to Windows Phone platform. Cold Space is a sci-fi RPG style game which is fought over Event Horizon and Pandorum and you need to kill lot of alien ships, robots and of course the all mighty powered bosses.

The game makes me nostalgic where we used to play this over those mini consoles on TV and even the game parlors. 1942 was one of my favorites where the spacecraft used to get all those special powers, loved the drone mode always.

Game Play:

Implemented with HD graphics, the game includes all kind of effects you can think of including blasts, shield down sounds, firing aircrafts and power grabs. It’s also implemented in 3D so don’t be surprised if you space crafts at depth which you cannot shoot down.

Even with all this its done simple and lets you play the complete game with juts one finger or thumb if you prefer to use one hand. The spacecraft appears just above where you place your finger, making sure you get to see it clearly.

Your craft is loaded up with a three firing systems, each having its own style. One could fire missiles, while other is good to shoot down a slow enemy and if you have them all around, third one covers all around.

The sweet part is you can switch between the power by raising your finger while the game is still on. As soon as you raise your finger, the game gets into a slow motion and pops up all three powers and you can switch with a tap. This way of implementation is very convenient, when enemies come in very fast and you need different power to shoot them down.

The game is easy to start with and gets tougher as the enemy count increases. Not only you get space craft around you, there are traps firing up lasers, throwing bombs which you cannot blow and the only option is to escape them.

CS Gameplay

Every time you kill your enemies, some power or upgrade will show up which can do several things like upgrading your weapons system, heal your life and even put on a shield for you.

Drones:

Right before you start playing, you can choose one drone to get along with you to the fight. Though it starts small, the drones play a crucial role in saving your life and putting down the enemies when it starts getting tough. You have three types here — phoenix drone, lightning drone and pocket drone. You can choose to pickup one of the free and rest two by paying the virtual money.

Graphics Mode:

The game has different level of graphics which depending on your device you can change. This means if you think the HD graphics are not working really good, you can switch to a lower one using the settings. As an example, the Ultra mode did not work well on 1520 but HD worked nicely. It is mostly because of the resolution.

Scoring System:

The game allows you to set your username (which is internally associated with a unique id). As you play and score, it keeps on adding your score and you can see yourself levelled up in top 20. However there is no permanent level and it depends when you are playing and how much score you made during that period.

Download:

While the game is free to download and play, like other games you have in-app purchases which can be spent to re-generate yourself in the game and keep on score. Also the game lacks a permanent upgrade system which means it’s all start from zero every time.
