How to Reclaim Space on Lumia 1020 by Deleting High Resolution Images
Every time you snap a moment with Nokia Lumia 1020, it creates two images. One is the 38 MP high resolution image and second is the 5 MP picture which is used for sharing. The former can be used to re-edit an image again and again and again as they are never deleted.
On an average, any high-resolution image which I mentioned above occupies 11 MB of space. This means most of the space of the 32GB internal storage will be occupied by these images. After using it for almost a month, I realized that I don’t even look back at those images and they are unnecessarily occupying a lot of space on my phone. So I went ahead and cleared them up. Below are the steps you can take to delete or move them to your PC.
- Connect your Lumia 1020 using the USB cable to your PC.
- Once it is detected on your PC, get inside it and open the Camera Roll.
- Next step is to wait for at least 2-3 minutes if you have loads of pictures. Not sure why Windows Phone chooses to save everything in one folder instead of breaking them into folders.
- Now type in the search box of the folder “*_Pro__highres*”
- Windows or MAC will then filter and display these images.
- Select All and Move them to your PC if you wish to save them, else delete all of them

Since you are doing it for the first time, select any of them and look at their size and resolution. You can figure out by their size and resolution. Nokia Pro Cam saves each of these copy with _Pro__highres added to their file name.
Note: This process will only delete the high-resolution images and not the 5MP image which was created for sharing. So all your images are safe but you wont be able to make use of the loss less zoom on any existing image using the Nokia Pro Cam.
