Foursquare App for Asha 501 is now Available

Nokia has just announced the availability of Foursquare App for Asha 501 series which even though strong on social integration had only Facebook and Twitter till day. However, now Foursquare app an be nicely used even without GPS. It uses your network connection which could be your Mobile Data or WiFi connection to figure out where you are. So chances are it may take a bit of time to figure it out but it does at the end.

Features of the App:

Quick Check-ins

As soon as you launch the app, the button on top right gives you quick access to the check in and saves lot of time. Now since it totally depends on networks, in case it does not figure out where you are, try manually changing the pin to where you are and then check in.

When you select a place to check in, you have two options; one that checks in quick and other where you get to tell some story along with your check in. This is exactly the place where you can choose to share on Twitter or Facebook.

Recent Activities:

That said the front screen of the app lists down the recent activity from your friends and right next to it is the search button. It finds out nearest places listed around your location but there is no way for you to type and search which is kind of bad.

Profile View:

The last icon in the same view gives you access to your profile where you can view all details like Badges, Mayorship, Photos and so on. The same kind or page you get to see for any other user you select. In case somebody has sent you a request, you get option to add or ignore right there.

Notifications:

There is a dedicated section to see all the notifications. You can choose to control notification prompts here by setting up how often you want to see them. You can choose from 5 minutes to 60 or just switch to manual mode. There is no push notification available for this application.

Summary:

I found the working fine but seems bit slow because it takes time to figure out your location. Expecting an update soon and to find that just visit the settings page of the app and hit check for update.

That said, the app is a warm welcome for users who are willing to buy this phone and need all social integration to it. We still have no news on WhatsApp which is one of the most demanded app for this phone.
