How to Enable Opera’s Built-in VPN Mode

Later today, Opera announced a new update to their web browser with a free built-in VPN update. With this, Opera also becomes the first major browser to integrate free and unlimited VPN. Now, this is some cool addition to the web browser. With the VPN now in-built and free with the browser, you don’t have to download VPN extensions or pay for VPN subscriptions to access blocked websites. Now, I can use Facebook and YouTube even when I’m in college.

How to activate it:

  • Download Opera for Windows from here. Skip this step if you already have Opera installed on your laptop or computer.
  • Launch Opera and click on Menu on the top left corner.
  • Under Menu select Settings and then Privacy and Security.
  • Click on Enable VPN.

  • Now, while surfing you will see VPN in the browser address bar, click on that and you will see a drop-down menu where you can change your location, turn off VPN, check your IP address and statistics for their data used.

Features in detail:

  • Hide your IP address – Opera will replace your IP address with a virtual IP address, so it’s harder for sites to track your location and identify your computer. Meaning you can browse the web more securely.
  • Unblocking of firewalls and websites – Many countries, schools, and workplaces block video-streaming sites, social networks, and other services. By using a VPN you can access your favorite content, no matter where you are.
  • Public Wi-Fi security – When you’re surfing the web on public Wi-Fi, intruders can easily sniff data. By using a VPN, you can improve the security of your personal.

Video Demo:

Personally, I feel this is a very nice move by Opera. Sometimes, I won’t be able to open Outlook in my college because they feel that its adult content (Yeah!). With this, you can at least bypass those blocked sites and access your favorite content. Yeah, I just said favorite content. And the best part? It’s free!

Sound off below of what you think of Opera’s addition of VPN in their browsers.
