First Look at Spartan Browser on Windows 10 for Phone

Microsoft revealed about its new browser, Spartan, which has been designed to work across all devices running Windows 10 which comes with native support for keyboard, touch, gestures, voice, controllers ( Coming to Xbox One as well?). This is how it looks on Windows 10 for Phone which definitely looks improved.

Looking at the screenshots, you can notice few things:

  • The address bar has been moved on the top with reload button on top left. The domain is highlighted.
  • Notice there is a line control on top right which should give access to few quick options as well.
  • This is followed by title of the web page.
  • The tab looks improved and there is a search on page button on right.
  • The menu bar at the bottom has three options. First is access to multiple windows, add to favourite, followed by a share option. Notice the favourite button also has a folder icon, which is very close to what we see on IE. I guess you will be able to organise things.

Microsoft revealed during the event that this browser has a new rendering engine which is based on the modern web requirement. Microsoft has left behind the old tech used in IE, but has kept backward compatibility.

There is a catch though. Microsoft will be rolling out Spartan browser to only few user base to test and improve it further. Based on feedback things will be fixed and then again rolled out for more users.

There are many questions that is still in mind. For example are features like downloading files, extensions, offline reading, etc will  also be rolled out. My thinking is yes as this is a universal app, and will support most of the features supported on Windows 10 for Desktop as well. Whats your thought?
