Freda : EBook Reader for Windows Phone, Gets major update
If you are big time addict for e-books and looking for one on your Windows Phone, Today we are glad to share Freda, a free ebook reader which has got a major update in its current version and I would say is back with a bang into the marketplace.
I remember testing Freda when it was out initially but then the UI never made an impression over me even though it was a pretty good reader but the UI was disappointing. As a matter of fact, I found Bookviser to be a better choice as it has a nice user interface.
Fast forward today, its good to see Freda coming back with tons of improvement, honestly it feels like they did the build from the ground.
Features :
- The main screen of the application now follows the panorama style display and has a background image. This is very similar to what you see it in the marketplace or music application.
- It comes with an inbuilt Bookshelf which again uses a metro-style book list which you can sort by author or title and apply this to search.
- It integrates with cloud services like OPDS, SkyDrive and DropBox from where you can bulk or individually download support eBooks.
- Every book you download has info associated with it which can be edited to correct or add Book Title and Author information.
- The settings screen is pretty interesting. You get a visual on where the action takes place and you can change it to the way you are convenient about. You can decide which control goes to which area of the book.
- You can make a backup of your bookshelf and sources to Skydrive but not the books itself. This is probably being done to stay away from piracy issues and I guess its a good move.
- Skydrive Integration is much better now. I remember when using it earlier, I always had to sign in every single time.
- Supports FB2, EPUB, HTML and Text formats.
- Low-memory mode for better performance on low spec phones
- Password lock
- French, German, Swedish and Slovak UI localization
