Gaana App for Windows Phone Released

Gaana.com is a popular Indian commercial music streaming service providing free and licensed music. Indiatimes launched it in June 2011, and Gaana.com provides both Indian and international music content. The best feature of Gaana.com is that the entire Indian music catalog is available to users worldwide, but only users in India have access to international music. Gaana.com features music from 21 languages – Hindi, English, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and other Indian regional languages.

Gaana.com has launched the official app for Windows Phone. The app features the metro interface to log in to your Gaana.com account and play your favorites. The tabs available include Featured Songs, Top Songs, and Top Playlists, along with the home tab.

When you select an album, you get to see details of it, including the songs available. You can either play a particular song or add it to your favorite list. When you start the player, you might see small icons for playback below, and this is probably the only issue I found on this app. The playback buttons could have been a bit larger.

Features of Gaana.com App

  • Make playlists or hear our favorite playlists, and sync them across the web and your phone.
  • Search from over 1 million songs for the one you love – whether it’s English, Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, and much more
  • Smart recommendations to listen to similar songs, artists, or albums
  • Easily share your favorites with friends on Facebook, Twitter, or by email.

No Radio:

If you have used the online version of Gaana, you must have noticed “Radio Mirchi” in their menus.  These are the digital versions of Modern Bollywood Melodies. Hindi Retro Station, Music Beyond Bollywood & Hindi English Club Mixes.

These are missing in the Windows Phone App. Also, the menu item that says “Radio Gaana” is confusing, but it’s probably a nickname and has nothing to do with real radio.

Overall, the app is pretty good, and with over 1 million songs available, it will never disappoint you.

This app is available for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.8 Devices. You can use your Gaana account in the app, which makes sure you get the multi-screen experience.
