Garmin HUD Companion App for Windows Phone

Garmin is a popular navigation device manufacturing company powered by HERE Maps which have several devices which can be installed in the car for turn by turn navigation. One of their recent device is HUD+ which stands for Heads Up Display which allows the driver to project the direction guidance over the car front glass or the windshield, once connected with a smartphone like iPhone and now it supports Windows Phone also.

The app was recently released and needs 1.1 GB of internal memory free along with space for maps. Sorry folks, it does not seem to work with already preinstalled HERE Maps data even though it’s powered by the same navigation system. Once you pair your phone with a Garmin HUD+ device via Bluetooth®, the phone completely transforms into a full-featured app. Once connected you can use it for next 30 day without the setup process coming in between.

The app is supported in United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands. It make sense to restrict in these regions as the HUD is still not available outside these countries.

Also the app turns to be pretty costly and unless you actually own the device, it doesn’t make sense for Windows Phone users to buy it separately as HERE maps are already available on Windows Phone and can be used for navigation exactly the same. However POI and other features is not there.
