What happens when Windows Phone gets into a Wrong Hand; Context CNET

Lets agree that Windows Phone still doesn’t have features which some of the most basic phones offer, starting with notifications and there tons of points you can jot down to discuss or get down for a war. But what happens when you give any phone to someone who doesn’t understand it completely ? It becomes the victim of war and stay shocked  when it comes from the big media houses like CNET.

Recently Windows Phone got listed in the casualty when one of their team members took it for a test drive. What really surprised me, that the author seems to be knowing nothing about how Windows Phone ecosystem has grown since it started, nor did the editors took much effort to find mistakes and at the end it seems to be intentionally done to get attention.

So CNET TV posted a road test video of Lumia 1020 and the author has lot to complain about it.

Marketing Stunt: The author commented that the 41MP is just a lot of megapixels you are ever going to use and it’s a marketing stunt. The best part, she does say that pictures are pretty amazing. Now if you ever looked at the review done by Steve Litchfield you know that she really doesn’t know the science or the technology behind it ( The lossless zoom)

There is no way to post on Facebook : Looking at the video, the Facebook option wasn’t there because the account used in the phone is not connected with Facebook.  (Note: Windows Phone was first to bring strong integration with Facebook and Twitter and on Facebook part, you can even upload multiple images). If at all one doesn’t want to integrate…check out the official Facebook Official App for Windows Phone

There is no way to Instagram : She is definitely aware that official app is not available but she doesn’t know there are tons of awesome third-party Instagram apps that can be used with an Instagram account. 6Tag & Instance being the most popular. 6Tag now supports multiple user accounts which none of the apps have in place, not even the official one.

Shutter Speed & The Missing moments:  She complains that shutter speed is so slow that she cannot capture a moment when she wants and it’s gone by the time she is ready for another. She also confuses the loading of the Nokia Pro Cam and how slow it is when it comes to taking the next pic. One thing she absolutely did not knew that she was using the Nokia Pro Cam as lens instead of the default camera app.

What this clearly means that she never head about the Nokia Smart Cam. This app when used as a camera app can :

  • Pick the best shot automatically.
  • Catch an Action shot so you don’t miss a passing moment.
  • Motion Blur — You don’t have to do anything here.
  • Add smile to every face if they weren’t smiling when you took that shot
  • Remove unwanted objects.

and All that can be manually edited to fit your choice. Does an iPhone do that?

Surprisingly the video showcased the exclusive Nokia Camera Apps — The Nokia Pro Cam and the Nokia Smart Cam but they have used the graphics and images which was officially created by Nokia team. So that clearly shows that she never used it or even tried it out correctly.

Summary :

Be it Windows Phone or iPhone or an Android, what really matters is how much you know the phone when you get down to testing it or take it to the public. Windows Phone shortcomings aren’t new but then talking about without using it for a while is the worst way to showcase your expertise.
