“Hey Cortana”–It’s time to go Hands Free

During the devices announcement, information of the Lumia Denim was also share, which is the next firmware upgrade to Lumia devices. Microsoft demonstrated that how straight forward it is now to invoke Cortana without much need of pressing start key or the search button.

Very similar to “Google Now”, you can just invoke Cortana, even when your phone is in idle state by just saying “Hey Cortana”. This feature will work with all handset which is powered by Snapdragon 80X chipsets like the Lumia 930 or the Icon and even the Lumia 1520. Which means this feature will not work on any Lumia device like the Lumia 730, Lumia 830, Lumia 630 and even HTC One M8 as it needs the firmware update.

That said, this opens up immense capability to what can be done. You can straight forward create appointments, launch apps and even call your home. The update is expected to launch this fall. So till then, keep training your Cortana as it will need your voice training seriously for this feature to work.

Remember, there is no criteria for the phone to have 1 GB RAM or even Sensor Core, its only about the processor which enables the phone to invoke itself on a particular command. Certain uses this technology to listen to the voice commands.
