HMD Officially Announces Nokia 8 with Dual Rear 13 MP Camera with ZEISS optics & Dual-Sight video
After making a lot of buzz with Nokia 3, 5 and 6, HMD, the new home of Nokia Phones, has officially announced the long awaited Nokia 8 at London. While the first set of Nokia Phones are still on the way to find a perfect place in the heavily competitive market, Nokia 8 carries a new feature which HMD claims as world-first Dual-Sight video.
Let’s take a look at the major highlights:
- Powered by Snapdragon 835 with 5.3-inch QHD screen.
- Dual Sight Video or #Bothie lets you stream video from both front and rear camera. 4K Recording
- ZEISS optics is back.
- Nokia OZO spatial 360° audio
- Nokia Active Wireless Headset – a lightweight, water, sweat, and dust proof premium headset.
- Available in four colors: Polished Blue, Polished Copper, Tempered Blue, and Steel
- Global Retail Price is €599
- Rollout to start from September.

That said, while Nokia 3 and 5 still hasn’t impressed us, Nokia 8 might have something to offer something apart from catering the pure Android. The whole point after experience the Nokia Phones till now is even though Pure Android has its advantages, but when we look at Xiaomi & Huawei, their custom ROM is simply outstanding.
If Nokia decides to cater pure Android experience, they need to bump up the game with Apps & software that can deliver the right camera experience. This is something we can now expect from Nokia 8 with Zeiss Optics, OZO Spatial, and Snapdragon 835 in place.
What is Dual Sight Video or #Bothie ?
First, the concept is not new, but the implementation will be definitely new. This mode will help creators or even any normal person to shoot from the front and rear camera together in real time and deliver a complete story. While many of Social Gurus might see this as a great opportunity for using in Live Streaming, it goes much beyond. Not everyone is a techie.

Imagine you shooting a video on your kids birthday which will have everybody except you. Using Dual Sight Video, you can also include yourself. This is an emotional touch point and will catch up. You can record 4K videos with high-quality audio.
The primary or the rear camera of Nokia 8 houses a 13 MP camera with OIS or optical stabilization, includes a monochrome lens, f/ 2.0 aperture PDAF, IR range finder, and dual tone flash. The front camera is no less, and offers 13 MP camera with a wide aperture (78.4 degrees) and uses the display as the flash when taking selfies.
This sounds promising, I am very keen to know if they did the software right.
Nokia OZO Spatial 360°Audio
Using this audio technology, Nokia 8 is expected to deliver an immersive audio experience. Well, that’s not a new claim, but here is what is new. OZO is VR ready, and it is not used to deliver sound, but it also excels in capturing sound. When it comes to capturing, it uses full 3d capturing using 4 microphones, while spatial 360 audio is captured using 3 microphones, and this is what Nokia 8 is offering here. It also uses direction sense to record which keeps the background sound at the bay.
When it comes to delivering audio, you get 3D audio playback on phone and supported VR headset. High-quality stereo, and 3D audio distribution format.
Specifications:
Nokia 8 is powered by Snapdragon 835 and houses 4 GB RAM with 64 GB internal storage. You also get microSD support. When it comes to the display you get a 5.3” IPS LCD QHD 2560 x 1440. The brightness is at 700nits and is protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5, 2.5D Glass. The phone is capable of USB 3.0 quick charging and houses 3090 mAh battery.
