How strong do the Microsoft’s New Portable Chargers stand against Xiaomi & Asus Powerbanks?
When it comes to Smartphone users, they love one more thing apart from their phone–Portable Charges–so they can keep using their phone for everything if not calls. The market is already flooded with portable charger from companies like Xiaomi, Asus and many others, and now Microsoft wants to bank on the demand as they roll out their own version, which more or less looks like others.
The chargers are named as DC-32, DC-33 and DC-34, which are same for outside but differ when it comes to capacity. They are of 5200 mAh, 9000 mAh, and 12000 mAh respectively. The chargers also come with led indicators, two USB ports and fast charging capacity, if you wish to charge two phones or devices together. You will be able to use any standard USB cable to plug it in. Since most of the phones now have separate USB and Wall Charger head, it can add in. When it comes to pricing, the retail price declared are USD 35, 45, and 55.

It’s good to see Microsoft to come out with some new design compared to the stick and candy bar design they had been following since time, and make it more powerful this time.
Now how does it compare to the competition ?
Short answer, it stands almost zero chance. There are two reasons. First there is no documentation where it talks about safety features to prevent overcharging and overheating. Secondly the price is almost double of similar products with similar or more capacity from Asus and Xiaomi, which are the popular ones right now.
** Right now we have the USD pricing of the Microsoft’s portable powerbanks which I have approximately converted to INR
| 10K to 16K mAH Range / Price | 5K to 9K Range / Price | |
| Microsoft | Rs 3520 | Rs 2240 Rs 2880 |
| Xiaomi | Rs 999Rs 1399 | Rs 699 |
| Asus | Rs 1499 | – |
Looking at the table above, even though Microsoft has more options in low range, the price is definitely a problem. While Xiaomi is only sluing through flash sales, Asus’s power banks are available through Flipkart. This is definitely going to be tough for Microsoft if they are planning to sell it on large volume.
