How to Personalize Windows 10 (Wallpaper, Lock, Start, Color Fonts, etc)
Like old days, right-click on the desktop and select Personalize from the context menu, and it will take you directly to the setting where you can change everything. Those who are upgrading from Windows 7, they will find everything new. The menus, settings all have a new look. So, once you are here you have sections for all these things. Let’s look at them one by one.
Background
You can choose between picture, solid background or slideshow. I will suggest you try the last one as its pretty cool. Also, this has bene there in Windows 7 and 8.1 as well. Choose pictures to Fill fit for a full-screen view.
Colors
This is the default color scheme for all Windows, Taskbar and other visual things. However, the settings do allow you to disable color scheme for Start, Taskbar and Action Center. The default color is grey. The same place also lets you disable or enable transparency for them.
- Enable/Disable Dark Mode
- Dark Mode for Apps
- Disable transparency effects
- Select a fixed accent color or choose from the wallpaper.
Lastly, you can choose to disable accent colors for Start Taskbar, action center, Title bars, windows borders.
Lock Screen
When you turn your Windows 10 and do not touch your keyboard and mouse, this Lock Screen shows up. It’s different from Login Screen and only acts as a layer to show a few notifications and has a background wallpaper. You can change this by selecting a picture from here. You can choose between
- Windows Spotlight
- Picture
- Slideshow
This setting also lets you choose which app can show notification lock screen. One of the apps can show detailed status.
Along with the option to control screen timeout, screen saver settings, Cortana, and disable lock screen background images.
Themes
Here you have the option to choose from default themes or themes that you have installed or go for high contrast themes. It is possible to download Windows Themes directly from the store, and then change background, color, sound and mouse cursor like good old days.
Fonts
Windows allows you to download Fonts directly from the store, and install it. If you have a custom font you want to use in Windows 10, just drag and drop it here.
Start
Not the real customization can be found here. You can just control to disable it to show most used apps, recent apps, recently added apps, go full screen and show recently jump lists on Start or taskbar. If you like a minimal approach to the Start Screen, then this is the place to configure it.
However, you can play around with Start Menu where you have options to pin folders, and apps, resize and group them. This along with the traditional start menu with search power is a great combination
