Windows 10 allows you to pin settings right to your start screen or taskbar, which makes it easy for your access them when you want it. If you place everything on the desktop, then shortcuts for these settings work better for you. Those who are not aware,  each of these are like shortcuts are called “URI” (short for uniform resource identifier), and they can also be launched from the RUN prompt as well. Here is how to create Desktop shortcuts & context menu for specific Settings in Windows 10.

Create Desktop Shortcuts for Settings:

We will use the old technique to create these shortcuts. We will use Ethernet as an example here. Follow the steps:

  • Right-click anywhere on the desktop, and select New > Shortcut.
  • Now paste the URI and click Next ( e.g., ms-settings:network-ethernet)
  • Name it properly.
  • You can also add keyboard shortcuts for them and launch them even faster.

Add Specific Settings to Context Menu:

You will need admin privilege as you need to edit your registry here. If you are aware of it, go ahead else quit. So here are the steps for power users. We will create a context menu for display.

  • Type Regedit in your Run Prompt.  ( WIN+R)
  • Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell
  • Right-click on the “shell,” select New and then Key. Name it properly. If you want to open Display from here, name it as “display.”
  • Now right-click on the newly created vital, i.e. “display,” and create another key and name it as Command.
  • This command will have another small file in it — “DEFAULT.”
  • Double-click on this Default and add this value for display >> “C:\Windows\explorer.exe” ms-display:

Now right click on the desktop, and you will have Settings in your Right-click. You can find all the URI listed on MSDN. Just follow this link.
