Honestly, Microsoft said it long back, that whoever helps the company shaping Windows 10, delivers feedback and help to find bugs will get Windows 10 Free. The only thing that they did not say was HOW. So if you do not plan to buy Windows 10, and want to install Windows 10 for free, then join the insider’s program. Microsoft has made it clear that if you keep your computer on Windows 10 insiders, it will stay a valid installation. However, you will need to connect it with a Microsoft account.
Microsoft says:
“Windows Insiders will continue to receive future flights as we begin to work on the next release immediately after Windows 10 ships. You’ll get to see the latest Windows fixes, features, and updates and give us feedback. So stay with us! Of course, we’ll provide you an option to leave the program and stay on the final build if you choose: but we hope that we’ll continue to provide you great reasons to remain a Windows Insider.”
How to get Windows 10 for Free? Join the Insiders Program
The best part of joining the insider’s program is that it is baked into Windows 10. All you need to is signup using the Microsoft account in Windows 10. If you have a local admin account, you can connect a Microsoft account with it to get started.
Convert Local Account to Microsoft Account
- Sign in using the local account.
- In the search box, type Your account picture and profile settings and click on the result.
- Under the Your info section, select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
- Enter your password and follow the on-screen prompt
Join Windows 10 Insider Program
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program and click Get Started to access the latest build. Once you are in Settings:
-
- Enter the account you used to sign in to the Windows Insider Program.
- Follow the prompts to install.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates to install.
That said since you want to use Windows 10 daily, and for your work, we would highly recommend you to choose Slow Ring. It will keep delivering the Major Build with minor build fixes attached.
The benefit of being in the Slow Ring is that you’ll still receive new updates and features on the Development Branch. However, the builds will be more stable. Builds are sent to the Slow Ring after feedback has been received from Insiders on the Fast ring and analyzed by our Engineering teams.
