It first happened when Microsoft launched Outlook.com. Many users created a new email account; some rushed to change. While a warning was issued about the change, a lot of people ignored it. Fast forward today, if you are planning to change Email on Microsoft Account, i.e. Outlook Email id on Windows 10, Xbox, etc and still want to carry all your Microsoft account purchases, it is possible. In this post, we will share what steps you should take to do so, and the drawbacks of migrating from an old to new Outlook account.
How to change Email on Microsoft account and keep purchases intact on Windows 10, Xbox, etc.
Earlier, Microsoft used to offer an “Update email” feature, which could be used to change the primary email id quickly. That is no more, and instead, Microsoft offers Account aliases. If you do not want to use an existing Microsoft domain (such as @Outlook.com, @Live.com, or @Hotmail.com), and change to new, you should use this feature.
You can change the email on Microsoft account for Windows 10, Xbox or any Microsoft device or service.
Warning:
When removing your primary alias, the email will be deleted entirely from the system. You will not be able to send or receive emails. The email can never be used in the future any more or recycled.
Make this move when you are sure because if you have used that email id anywhere, it could be a problem.
Steps to change Email on Microsoft account and keep purchases intact on Windows 10, Xbox, etc
- Sign in to your account using your existing alias and password.
- Go to Your info at the top of the page > Select Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
- It will open the Manage Aliases page. Select the alias that you want to remove.
-
- If it’s a primary alias, you’ll need to select a new primary before you can remove the old one. To do so, choose one of the other aliases on the account and select Make primary.
- You’ll use this new primary alias to send and receive emails, access your email accounts, and appear on devices
- To remove the email address or phone number you no longer want, select Remove next to it and then follow the instructions provided
Done that, you will have to use this account everywhere else. You will be signed out from the apps, Xbox One, and Windows 10 PC and will have to signin with the new account.
