Microsoft Edge uses BING as its default search engine. However, not many use Bing, and Google is their preferences over Microsoft’s Search Engine. Good news is that you can set Google as the default search engine in Microsoft Edge. Not only Google but since Edge supports Open Search standards, any search engine which supports it can be added to Edge as a default engine. In this post, we will share how you can change the default search engine in Edge Browser.
How to set Google as default Search Engine in Microsoft Edge
Change Search Engine in Edge Chromium
- Launch Edge Chromium and type edge://settings/privacy in the address bar.
- In the end, locate Address bar and click on the right arrow.
- Next click on the drop-down next to Search Engine used in the address bar.
- Here you can choose between Bing, Yahoo, Google, and DuckDuckGo.
If you wish to add more search engines which support the Open Search standard, then all you need to is open in the address bar, and come back here. You will have the option to add it under Manage Search Engine.
Change Search Engine on Edge (Non-Chromium)
The UI in this method is slightly different but works the same. However, there is no dropdown available where you need to choose google. Instead, you need to add it manually.
- Launch Edge on Windows 10.
- Type Google.com in the address bar and hit enter to open it.
- Now, Click on the three dots, aka MENU on the top right of the browser.
- Select Settings, and then scroll down to click View Advance settings.
- Look for a label which says “Search in the address bar with”. Right now you will have bing as the default search engine.
- Click on the drop-down, and select <Add New>
- If your browser still has Google.com open, you will see google.com listed.
- Select and choose add as default.
Next type you type something on your address bar, it will use Google Search as the default search engine. It is possible because of Google as added support for Open Search, and hence the option.
