How to Setup Driving Mode in Windows Phone with GDR3
While Windows Phone GDR3 update did not bring big features which you were expecting, it did roll out nice addition to Windows Phone features and our favorite is the Drive Mode. Like its name, this mode is used for distraction less driving which it achieves by by blocking calls and text. Once connected with a Bluetooth device which is configured for taking calls and voice, the Driving mode is enabled automatically.

How to configure Driving Mode:

Go to Settings > Driving Mode and launch it. Once launched you will go through set of steps where you configure to block text, calls, both or none. When you choose to block text and calls, the next option lets you configure a predefined text which is sent to the person who calls while you are driving.
Once these are configured, next step is to add your Bluetooth device. You must turn on your Bluetooth and have the device connected, though it picks up from already connected list. That said, make sure to choose the advance settings in Bluetooth and choose “Connect in a different way to use Speech with Bluetooth in my car”.

Doing that will automatically enable the driving mode. Note that without a Bluetooth device connected, the mode remains disabled. The only way to figure out if you are driving is when you connect to a Bluetooth device. You can also have multiple devices connected depending on how you commute and how many devices you use.
It is also possible to pin the Driving mode to start screen and launch quickly. A small CAR icon shows up when driving mode is enabled.
When the mode is enabled, everything is turned off including call, text and app notifications. However when you turn on your phone again, you would see individual apps have their notifications if they are pinned to start screen.
Troubleshooting: Many a times, even though a Bluetooth device is connected, the drive mode remains disabled. The best is to go and connect the device first and then get back to driving mode.
Can you use Driving Mode any time ?
You can always use your driving mode as NO Disturbance Zone by connecting it to a Bluetooth device. As an example, I connect with my Tylt’s Tunz Speakers when I am recording a video and don’t want the phone to ring.
