How to Stream Music using Groove from OneDrive in Windows 10 (Outside US)

OneDrive allows you to keep around 50,000 music files which you can use it to as a roaming music profile or use apps to stream to any of the device that supports it. In Windows 10, we have this re-branded music player, Groove, which has native support for streaming music from OneDrive to any of the Windows 10 devices i.e. Windows 10 Mobile, Windows 10 Desktop, Laptops and Tablets. 

This works seamlessly when you have the same Microsoft account configured on all of them. However, Microsoft has configured this in rather unexplained way that you will need to change your existing region to US or any of the countries which supports Groove Music Subscription.

You should know that you don’t have to buy MUSIC Subscription to use this feature, but SIGN-IN is only supported when your region is set to US. Also, this will need bandwidth as you will be streaming music most of the time.

Change Region:

  • On any of the device, the option is available under Time and Language.
  • Set region to US. This should work, but if it doesn’t, change your date and time to US setting as well.

Upload Music to OneDrive:

  • Go to onedrive.live.com
  • See if there is a folder named as “MUSIC”, if not create it.
  • Now upload your music files here. If you have OneDrive App on your Desktop, you can use that to upload the files as well.

Groove Music Settings:

  • Use this only if things are not working the way you expected.
  • On the bottom left look for your account name. Right next to is a settings icon. Click that.
  • ON the right hand side of the app, you will get an option which says “Reset”. Use this to clear of any previous sync.

Groove Music :


  • Relaunch the Groove Music App.
  • Make sure you are signed in with your MS account.
  • Now click on Albums and select Filter on top and select OneDrive.
  • This will list all your music from OneDrive and you can stream it.
