HTC 8X OTA Update 10211 is available in India
Right turned I turned on the review unit of HTC 8X and connected it to WiFi, there was an update already waiting to roll in. Starting with Windows Phone 8, you will not need a PC to install update but all updates will be pushed Over The Air i.e. OTA and my first experience was pretty cool.
Coming back to topic, this section of update has 4 smaller updates and the phone is now updated to version 10211 from 9903. Below is a screenshot of what About Phone Section looks before and after.
Microsoft is listing down all the update at this official URL. So if you want to check what update was sent on your phone, this is the right place to start with. HTC 8X had the following updates which many are calling as PR 1.1 Update. If you are new to WP8, Go to Settings > System > Phone Update and hit check for updates.
HTC 8X (Old Version vs New Version)
- OS Version 8.0.9903.10 changed to 8.0.10211.204
- Firmware Version 100021.707 changed to 20001.707
- Radio Software Version 1.1 changed to 1.11B
- Bootloader Version 0.0.1532.20(157808) changed to 0.0.1532.20(159895)
Microsoft has also detailed version of what’s new in the update at the official page which includes messaging improvements, text replies to incoming calls, IE setting to restrict full image download and WIFI Priority settings.
My Experience with OTA Update :
This turned out to be pretty smooth update and there wasn’t any issue. I was connected to WIFI Network for downloading the complete update. Right after the update is complete, you do get option to either postpone or install it right away.
Once you choose to install the update, the phone will restart, install update and restarts and migrates all your apps. Then it comes back to normal phone mode. You get info about success or failure status of each update.
