Data Sense is one of the coolest feature of Windows Phone, which gives you a break down of data consumption over mobile data and WIF, per app basis. That said, its also not unique but Microsoft latest release of a companion app for Data Sense, is trying to set a difference. Named as IE Data Savings app, it lets you see how much of mobile data was consumed when using IE, and how much data it helped to save.

  1. Usage (saved and used) on daily, weekly, monthly, and even over last 6 months.
  2. Then you have a history tab which gives you estimates of things that could be done with saved data. References used are Facebook photos, online video, streaming music and app download from there store

Overall, its a good move from Microsoft to promote IE capabilities in terms of saving data. Mobile data round the world is not cheap, and any browser that can save data gets attention. Microsoft rolled out Browser Data Savings feature with Windows Phone 8, and its the first time you can actually measure it. This data settings for IE can be found in Data Sense settings. You may choose from off, standard, high and automatic.

The stats shown by IE Data Savings app will change as you change your settings. If you are on high savings mode, you would see more data saved compared to when its standard.
