Intel announces next generation RealSense cameras with real time depth processing

Intel has introduced its next generation of RealSense cameras, Intel RealSense D415 and D435, part of Intel RealSense D400 family. The unique feature of these cameras is the real-time depth sensing & processing. According to Intel, they are trying to make these cameras work like Human eyes senses depth and to achieve these it comes with a pair of depth sensors, RGB sensor, an infrared projector.Features of D415 & D435

  • A powerful vision processor that uses 28 nanometers (nm) process technology and supports up to 5 MIPI Camera Serial Interface 2 lanes to compute real-time depth images and accelerate output
  • New and advanced stereo depth algorithm for accurate depth perception and long range
  • A set of image sensors that enable capturing of disparity between images up to 1280 x 720 resolution
  • Support for the new cross-platform and open-source Intel® RealSense™ SDK 2.0
  • Dedicated color image signal processor for image adjustments and scaling color data
  • Active infrared projector to illuminate objects to enhance the depth data

While not much information has been given by Intel on how both of these cameras with similar feature differ but here is something marked for D435:

Intel® RealSense™ Depth Camera D435 is designed to best fit your prototype. With the global image shutter and wide field of view (91.2° x 65.5° x 100.6°), Intel® RealSense™

Depth Camera D435 offers accurate depth perception when object is moving or device is in motion, and it covers more area, minimizing “blind spots”

while remarks for D415 is as follows:

Intel® RealSense™ Depth Camera D415 is designed to best fit your prototype. With the rolling image shutter and narrow field of view, Intel® RealSense™

Depth Camera D415 offers high depth resolution when object size is small and more precise measurements are required.

Which pretty much clears the usage of both of these cameras. D435 is priced at $179, while D415 will cost you $149.
