Kickstarter App for Windows Phone

Kickstarter is one awesome place to find some cool projects and grab some gadgets and invest into software for cheap. You not only help the project grow but also save some money.

Good news is that there is a Kickstarter app for Windows Phone available which allows you to keep track of projects which you find interesting. However the app does not uses an API or your login details to fetch data but instead searches over project and then you can manually add them. The application is from Johnny Stevens. The app pulls in information from Kicktraq.com (Adam Clark) which is an awesome site if you want to track Kickstarter projects.

Now if you are wondering if its only a wrapper then you got it wrong. Even though the search is more of web-based but once added in the app, the project gets displayed in Windows Phone native metro interface. You get to see details like Project Name, Project Image, Funding Status and if it became successful.

If you have multiple projects getting tracked, you can refresh all of them at once or individually. There is an option to pin it to start screen so you can reach them quickly. Alternatively you can choose to open the Kickstarter website or open in Kicktraq.com. As of now there is no extra feature in the live tile.

When you launch the app you have an empty projects screen. To add you can use the search button which displays a search box and opens the Kickstarter website in the frame below. Once you search you can view the list of projects in the same frame. Select the one you were looking for and then use the add menu to add it to the Project List.

Overall the app looks well done but it will increase your expectation for notifications or even make you wish to be able to use your ID to grab projects from Kickstarter. We can hope those options come soon.
