Lenovo launches Legion Y720 and Y520 Laptops – two powerful Windows 10 Gaming laptops (VR-ready)

Earlier today at CES 2017 in Vegas, Lenovo launched two new powerful gaming laptops- Legion Y720 and Legion Y520. These laptops are built to provide the most immersive gaming experience. According to the company, these laptops are designed for mainstream and enthusiast players. These laptops are follow-ups to the very successful Ideapad Y700 and Ideapad Y500, but with a new branding. The company decided to ditch the Ideapad branding for gaming laptops, which is a great move as it often confused users, and was also a boring name for gaming laptops.

This is not just about branding, with Legion Y720, Lenovo also stepped into the VR category. Legion Y720 is also the very first laptop to support Dolby Atmos. Both the laptops will have option of up to 16GB of RAM. Both the laptops carry the beast-y look and feels solid.

Lenovo Legion Y720

Legion Y720 is the successor to last year’s Ideapad Y700, but has a 15.6- inch display compared to 17-inches screen of the Ideapad Y700. It has 16GB of RAM and has an either a Core i5-7300HQ or a Core i7-7700HQ processor paired with an NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB GPU . The laptop also supports Xbox One Wireless Controller, an optional RGB keyboard backlight. your choice of a 1080p or 4K anti-glare display, and Thunderbolt 3 USB-C.

This laptop also adds to the list of VR-ready laptops for the gaming community. The lines between reality and virtual experiences are blurring after Microsoft announced cheap VR headsets supporting Windows 10. Built from the ground up, the Lenovo Legion Y720 Laptop with up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics is VR-ready, offering truly immersive gameplay. Lenovo Legion Y520

While this is the not as powerful as Y720, the Legion Y520 packs a great deal for gamers who are looking to spend less but do not want to compromise on gaming. While it offers up to a Core i7 Kaby Lake processor, the GPU is a VR-capable GTX 1050 Ti. The display, also at 15.6 inches, provides a resolution of 1080p.

As Legion Y520 has a Nvidia 1050 graphics chip, it means it won’t work with the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Neither it has Dolby Atmos or an integrated Xbox One Wireless Controller which makes it around $500 cheaper than the Y720.
