Lumia 620 : Affordable and Feature Rich Windows Phone 8
When it comes to a phone which can get to most of the users but still carry along most of the great features of Windows Phone 8, Nokia Lumia 620 makes its own place. The phone not only satisfied me for most of the use cases but also made sure that I wasn’t disappointed by the build quality.
We had the phone for 20 days to test it completely and below is a detailed review which covers almost every minute detail a user looks forward to.
Design Factors:
- The design makes sure that anybody can hold it. If you have bigger hand, the curves and grip makes sure you don’t drop the phone and if you have smaller hands, then the phone will find a perfect place to fit in.
- Dual Shot Case: Take up any Lumia 620 and you would feel that it’s not one colour. The shell is made up of two different colour which many a times will you give you three color feeling. This sets the phone aside compared to any other Lumia phone.
- Back Shell of Lumia 620 has a completely different feeling. As the quality of case is very high nobody can point that you have plastic body. This phone also comes with Nokia written on back of the case which is embossed.

Screen & Display
Screen: Lumia 620 a 3.8 inch LCD screen with a resolution of 800×480 pixels and there is no problem when it comes to response when used for tapping, swipe or anything.
However if you have used AMOLED screen before, Lumia 620 screen is not on par with them. It feels like a strong plastic like screen which does a great job but cannot be compared to 820 or 920 screens.

Display: The phone comes with Nokia’s Clear Black technology which makes sure you can still read in sunlight. However, it kind of disappoints me at two places. First, the colors don’t remain the same when viewed from different angle ( Blue goes purple) and secondly, the vibrancy which I have seen on Lumia 820 is missing.
Camera (Photos + Video)
Photos: The phone comes with a 5MP Rear Camera and LED Flash. This makes sure that your casual photography hunger will be met. Like all Windows Phone it comes with Automatic, Night Portrait, Sports, Night, Close-up, Backlight settings which fits every situation.
The camera does very well when it comes to daylight or any bright indoor light. However if you pickup this camera for low light captures, you might be disappointed.
Another thing to like about the Lumia 620 camera is the Macro mode. I particularly liked it because it picked up good details without much distortion.
Video:
The camera is good enough for taking regular videos. You can record in 720p which makes sure you get good quality but make sure you have enough light. Do check the detailed video review to know the quality of video on the move.
Battery Life
This is something I was petty satisfied with. Lumia 620 packs in 1430 mAH batter power which runs from 14 to 16 hours on a regular use. If you are more of an avid user, expect it to run out in 12 hours. If you mix gaming, the battery will drain in 8 hours.
I took the phone on roaming with me and it survived for 10 hours in train where outages are frequent.

You will be one happy user when it comes to charging the phone. The phone charges up in around 1 to 1:15 hours which makes sure you don’t have to wait a lot if you are running late.
PS: It seems Lumia 620 Officially has 1300 mAH battery. However the review unit which we received had 1430 mAH as shown in the image above.
Music, Video & Storage Space
I really like the audio quality of Lumia 620. The sound is crisp and clear and if you are using the headphones, you are going to love it. Moreover the Phone OS comes with an equalizer which can be used to further optimize your experience. Below is a sample video which gives you an idea of music quality.
Watching videos are equally good on Lumia 620 but since it is a small phone, you might crave sometimes for bigger screen. I guess this is where 520 and 720 are going to win. Nevertheless, the video experience was not bad at all if we can keep the screen size off the note.
Lumia 620 internal or the phone storage is just 8GB which for many Media lovers will fall short. Good that it supports micrSD card up to 64GB. You can set your phone to store Picture, Music and Videos on the SD card and reserve the internal space for Apps.
Gaming Performance:
Update: Gameloft Released Asphalt 7 Heat for Lumia 620 and it works great. We are changing our recommendation now. This device is great for gaming but the games has to be optimized for it. Read more.
Lumia 620 comes with a dedicated GPU which can make gaming experience on the phone worth a note. However, in reality, this was not a great experience and the problem rests with the low RAM. The games need to optimize themselves to run on 512 mb of RAM.
So if you pickup games which aren’t very resource hungry, they run very well but games like Temple Run, Asphalt 7 are yet to make their presence on low-end devices.
Conclusion: Most of the games will work but not all. So this is not a gaming device if that’s your priority. Below is a video demo:

Exchangeable Back shell:
The idea of changeable back shell started with Lumia 820 and has come down to 620 as well. The very though that you can have any colour on your phone can make anybody happy. So if you are a colour buff, Lumia 620 has 5 different colour shells in combination with each other (Dual Shot).

Also unlike Lumia 820, you don’t have to bring in a hammer to take the shell out. All you need to do is press the camera portion and then use your nails a bit to draw the case out.
Overall Performance:
If you have used phones like Lumia 510 or 610, Lumia 620 is going to be a major upgrade. The phone is not only faster than its predecessors but packs in a lot of features.
The phone wasn’t slow anywhere using apps like Whatsapp or even when playing games. The image quality is very good when it comes to daylight photography and audio in the video came out well too.
It’s one of the most comfortable phones to hold and use. Even though it looks small, the phone really is not and fits every hand. The changeable backshell and dual colour case makes it completely different from any other Lumia phones.
The phone is priced at less than 15K, so if you are looking forward to buy one, we would recommend you this big time. Enjoy!!
