Lumia 625 : Camera Performance & Sample Images ( Day 8 )

Lumia 625 is a great phone when it comes to entertainment and gaming but the phone disappoints us when it comes to taking pictures both in day light and low light. When the phone was announced and a lot of emphasis was made on big screen, I was quite sure that since the camera lacks low light performing capabilities and is just 5MP, one wouldn’t expect a lot from it.

Still Photos:

Lumia 625 houses an LED Flash along with the 5 MP camera which is good enough for day light photography. I said good enough because even in day light the photos did not turn out to be sharp enough and any slight movement will get everything out of focus and induce motion blur to everything.

However, the macros turned out to be really well which also has its limits but it was much better than what I have experienced when it comes to camera on this phone. The phone comes with amber update pre-installed but will not be able to make use of Nokia Pro Cam which uses the pure view technology. You may use the Nokia Smart Cam for slightly better result as it lets you capture lot of moments and then modify according to your need.

Another drawback of the camera is that the outer cover gets dirty very often. It’s little buldged out and similar to Lumia 820 the outer section is exposed to marks and dirt. So when you pull out the camera to take picture make sure to check there aren’t any finger prints or dust over it.

Low light performance was a bummer as expected. If you want to get photos like Lumia 920 or 925 without using flash, this is not the phone you are looking for. However, if you plan to use the flash, the photos will be better than expected. Now remember when I say low light I am pointing to a candle light dinner scenario and as indoor lights.

Well if I disappointed you a lot there, here is some good stuff. All Lumia phones can make use of the awesome Nokia Imaging apps like Smart Camera, Panorama and even third party apps like 6Tag, Camera 360 are integrated with it. This means you still get the same kind of experience when it comes to taking picture and sharing to the world.

Video:

When it comes to video recording, Lumia 625 records both in 720P and 1080P format. Not much of settings are available here but you can choose to keep flash on while record and change white balance mode from auto, cloudy, daylight, fluorescent and incandescent.  The recording has direct impact from its sensor so expect an ok performance here.

Summary:

That said, Lumia 625 Camera is good for casual usage and nothing more. However the lenses will make it still better than any other low end Windows Phone.
