Make an Appointment using your Voice on Windows Phone

Windows Phone Apps can make use of the in-built speech recognition technology. This helps users communicate with the app using their voice. There are many apps which are already taking advantage of this e.g. Note Taking Apps, Music Players, etc.

So today we thought about making appointments using this feature. There are many users who have a lot on their calendar and making in an entry like this will be a lot cooler for them. So we shortlisted two apps, Say Your Appointment and Voice Agenda. Let us get to know what each has to offer.

Say Your Appointment:

It is the simplest app you will find on store to create quick appointments into your calendar. It follows a similar pattern to the way we think when it comes to appointment. So as an example if you want to create an appointment, you need to say “Business Meeting at Mumbai on March 10th at 1 PM”

This is then converted to a meeting with “Business Meeting” as subject, “Mumbai” as location, “March 10th” as date and “1 PM” as time.

The real advantage of using this app is that you can have the calendar event ready by speaking only once. However, voice speaking also has its own problem — Noise. So, when making an entry you need to make sure that there is less noise for better results.

Voice Agenda:

If the above app was a bit too tough to use, because you had to say everything in one breath, check out Voice Agenda. This app is probably the most complex but still easy to use appointment app on Windows Phone.

This app works the same way but comes in two modes. First mode lets you add appointment details one by one while the second needs you to say everything in one breath.

When using the first mode,  you will be prompted for each detail. This makes sure you not only have a better chance to complete the entry but you can also skip them. This comes in handy when you do not have details for that particular section.

You also get to use options like Save, Done, Quit and exit. Once your appointment is ready, the app will repeat it for you. This gives you instant option to either redo it or save.

One thing which I really liked about the app is the detailed help page. It clarifies each and every step, along with words to be used and so on.

The commands supported are:

  • What’s my agenda for today?
  • List my appointments for tomorrow.
  • What’s my schedule for next [Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday].
  • Add a new appointment.
  • Quick add an appointment.

Apart from the above mentioned features, the app also supports Lock Screen. Once selected, it will display the next 3 upcoming appointments (Detailed Status) or number of remaining appointments for the day (Quick Status)
