Microsoft to go Aggressive to bring Apps by Independent Developers to Windows Phone
A lot of rumours about Microsoft working on a technology which will allow Android Apps to run on Windows Phone, here is more convincing insiders story which makes more sense than anything else right now. While Microsoft did work hard to get some of popular apps to Windows Phone, the app gap story is not ending, mostly because there many independent and small developers are not getting their apps .
There are two reasons for this. One is the share market of Windows Phone and second is there is no incentive for them from Microsoft if the company wants them to get the app to their platform. Its more about cost effectiveness. We are hearing that Microsoft is putting up a dedicated team to bring them to Windows Phone platform, which is almost similar to how they worked with bigger companies, but in a different way,
Mary Jo Foley shared about Microsoft’s initiative where the Microsoft’s Developer Experience (DX) team is working on a strategy to attract more ISVs of all sizes and stripes. In one of the emails it has been stated.
“DX has built a global ISV management capability over the past 18 months and now we will extend that capability to manage top ISVs in the field. In partnership with WPG (Worldwide Partner Group), we will also develop a broad programmatic approach to reach and engage a broader set of ISVs that scales from higher touch programs and offers through to self-service with MPN (Microsoft Partner Network). We must be selective in how we look at ISVs to drive the greatest adoption of our cloud and mobile platforms. We will no longer define ISVs in the traditional sense.”
This is a great news for developers who wanted to get on Windows Phone platform but couldn’t for obvious reasons and even for consumers on Windows Phone as they will see even more apps coming to the platform. If Microsoft nails it right, and treat even the small companies and individual developers as partners, this may change the mindset as well.
