Microsoft SIM card for Windows in Works

I always thought about a Virtual SIM, which allowed me to switch to any network instead of going through the hassle of getting a new SIM card when one has to switch network. Call it like a Global SIM Card, which works with any network, and allows me to switch instantly.

It seems Microsoft is planning to build its own SIM Card, which makes it easy to connect to various mobile networks for LTE without a contract. As a matter of fact, Microsoft already has an app published in the Windows 10 store, but there has been no announcement about its detail.

The Cellular data app allows you to connect to a trusted nationwide mobile data network using only your Microsoft account. Connect with – and pay for – a mobile data plan on your Windows 10 device using only your Microsoft account information. That means no fixed contract and no long-term commitments to a mobile network operator.

Buying a mobile data plan will be like an IAP and very useful when there is no WiFi, or your own network is down in that area. However, this will be specifically for Windows 10 devices and will need a SIM card from Microsoft.

Cellular Deta Windows 10

Here is how it works according to Microsoft:

  • Click the WiFi icon at the far right of the taskbar.
  • In the list of networks, look for one called Cellular data, then select it.
  • In Mobile settings, select ‘View plans,’ then follow the steps to buy mobile data and get online.

Of course, this plan will be available only in countries like the US to start with and will need Microsoft to work with cellular partners to succeed. The percentage of Unlocked phones is rising in the US, and chances are many will opt-in for this.
