Microsoft to Roll Out Office as a Separate App this Month End to Preview Builds

If there was one app that was not plugged out of system app, it was the Office App which helped you edit and share documents on the go. When Microsoft rolled out the latest preview for phones, the Office app went missing only to return as a separate app, and gets the Universal App Treatment.

In a post by Office Blog, Jared Spataro, general manager for the Office marketing team, shared that Office Apps on phones or on Windows are designed for productivity, and when it comes to tablets and phones they get first class treatment for being touch first. Having a universal app makes it easy for any developers to have the same code running for all Windows device and scale.

Microsoft will be rolling out the Universal App for Phones this month end. Important to note that Microsoft has moved commands and controls to bottom of the screen, looks like Hamburger menus are gone,  so you can triage your work and make edits one-handed with your thumb. I am really eager now to try it out.

However, as Michael says, we now might have to see loading, resuming and all set of screen that we get to see with other apps. Thats one big disadvantage, when app goes out of system.
