Microsoft working on “Intelligent Delivery System” to reduce Xbox One Game Download Size
When Xbox One was announced with Digital Downloads of Games, it becomes a real pain for many, including me, to keep on downloading the big updates for games. I have updated Gears of War 4 like 5 times and each had an update of around 5 GB. That is huge, keeping in mind I have 500 GB storage space, and not to forget limit on my monthly bandwidth. Now imagine how things will be with Xbox One X with 4K support!
Now reports are coming in that Microsoft is working on the Intelligent Delivery system, just like Windows 10 PC, which will make sure to reduce hard drive space of games and reduce download bandwidths. The answer to this problem is finding out what kind of system i.e. display you have, and then only download those file which works for your system. This is something I have seen Asphalt 8 games doing, and it works.
This is not going to be just limited to displays. It will include languages, audio, type of Xbox you have, and so on. The Intelligent Delivery system will take care of all these, and make sure only needed downloads are taken into account. In case you change your TV, it will automatically figure it out, and download the asset files.
The next step is to ask gamers to properly arrange their game according to the new delivery system. They will also need to make sure they are divided into components, as a full game download is not going to happen post this update. Expect download on demand now so if you want the only campaign, you can skip downloading multiplayer part completely.
This sounds great. What do you think?
