Microsoft & Xiaomi to Test Windows 10 on Mi4 with Selected Power Users

Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 10 is coming to all devices this summer. While everything is more of a formality, the most interesting part of this is about an experiment they are planning to conduct with Xiaomi. Microsoft stated:

Through a new program with Xiaomi, one of the top smartphone distributors in the world, a select group of Xiaomi Mi 4 power users will be invited to help test Windows 10 and contribute to its future release later this year. These power users will have the opportunity to download the Windows 10 Technical Preview – installing it and providing their feedback to Microsoft.

While the details of this program is not known, its interesting to see Microsoft is more interested with Xiaomi than any other Android OEM.  This also means, this program will be first tested in China where the Chinese company has more user base who love to install ROMS and try out customization which is a key to success of Xiaomi.

If Microsoft is taking a ROM based approach, this will be the first time, consumers will be actually downloading the whole OS on their phone and use it. This is much like Windows for desktop approach. Microsoft is still pushing hard to increase the user base of Windows Phone, and if this experiment becomes a success, Microsoft might be able to get the Xiaomi Hardware to other countries and increase presence of Windows Phone into China, which is a huge market waiting to get unlocked.
