Microsoft’s Future Surface Pen might Sense Real World Colours

After using Surface Pro 4, and the pen that came along with it, I am pretty convinced that if give to hands of artists, one can do things normal people can never imagine. Microsoft knows this potential, and has filed a patent which they can use to build a future Surface Pen that will be able to sense colours from Living world, and translate it into Digital world. Call it the “Colour Picker”

Surface Pen Stylus Patent 1

One of the patents, one can clearly see that a stylus, which closely resembles Surface Pen,  is used to pick colour from a leaf, and then used on digital devices like Surface Pro 4, to draw. It also shows that the picked colour is also shown around the pen. Most probably, the tip will have sensor which will analyse the colour from the outer world object, and then retranslate to exact colours.

Surface Pen Stylus Patent 2

One thing Microsoft needs to add to its Surface Pen is tilt sensor and the shading capability. Much needed for artists.

It’s definitely an existing technology which can change the way artists, and photographers think about colours, but as of now it only exists in the books. This tech may or may not see the light of day, but yes we all hope it does.
