Nokia’s MixRadio Goes Independent; Expect it to Arrive on Every Platform

The famous Nokia Mix Radio, former Nokia Music, is now an independent service, which happened as a result of recent reconfiguration and layoff in Microsoft where around 18000 employees were let go.

Speaking to Music Ally, MixRadio head Jyrki Rosenberg, said that the Microsoft will let of one of the best music service—which was acquired as a part of Nokia Microsoft acquisition—making it more independent instead of merging or even shutting down as a choice for Xbox Music.

While this is little disheartening because it was one of the music service I have personally used and it had always been on Windows Phone platform but on the other side, I m happy to see that it will grow beyond the horizon.

That said, Rosenberg also shared that he has been already meeting potential investors around the world and results are positive as many in US, Europe and Asia are interested. That’s good.

What I think will happen next :

  • A basic free service will still exists but will be limited than the current form or advertisement based model can be implemented.
  • A multiple level of subscription might show up. This means if I am just looking for the MIX, I can pay X while for more I would pay X+1.
  • Expect the service to show up on all major platform.
  • A strong competition ahead.
