Next version of Xbox One Controller to come with 3.5mm Audio Port

E3 is close, and while we expect many game announcements, Xbox Team might surprise another version of the Xbox One controller, which will have a dedicated 3.5mm port to let headphones directly connect with the controller. As of now, gamers need to use an additional jack, Stereo Headset Adapter, to hook up their headphones.

The port details are already listed on the Xbox support site, which says “3.5-mm port (16). Used to connect compatible 3.5-mm audio devices. Only available on controllers released after June 2015.”

This will be exciting for many gamers as they don’t need to make the additional expense of $24.99 to get their headset compatible with the controller.  Sony’s DualShock controller already has this feature.

But is the Audio Port of any use for serious gamers?

If any of you have not used the Stereo Headset Adapter, here are the advantages:

  • Quick access to the mute button and volume controls. The mute button is handy because if you get interrupted suddenly by anything like a call or a person, you can mute it right away. If you have used the chat headset, you will notice that a mute button is available with it as well.
  • Third-party adapters like the turtle beach version of the MIC adapter have their own 3.5MM port and allows for voice monitoring so one can hear himself while wearing the headset.
