Nokia gaining on Xbox Game Titles, Releases Blobster for Windows Phone

Seems like Microsoft is slowing down on Game titles for Windows Phone branded as Xbox for Windows Phone. WPCENTRAL noticed that there was no release  of new Game titles for a long time, and they have a deep discussion on why it isn’t happening. Looks like Microsoft is almost dropping game titles for Xbox or at least for now, but Nokia is taking advantage of this. ( So I guess this was the reason they made Where is my Water & Perry free for today)

Right after reading that post when I checked out Nokia collection, There is yet another new game titled as Blobster available. Even though this isn’t the first time Nokia has developed game exclusive for Xbox and Lumia devices(Words with Friends, 100th Day of School, Game of Life are some). So now even though  Nokia isn’t poring cats and dogs of games on the Windows Phone, but they are at least consistent.

So coming back to topic, lets take a look at Blobster.

When you actually start playing this game for the first time, it might feel like Mario in a different avatar. Though the game is bit different but has the same kind of scenarios i.e. Collecting Fruits, Getting in and out of pipe and son.

What really disappoints me ?

The control. Nokia took a different approach here and wants you to use both the fingers for movements i.e. Left swipe up to go left and right swipe up to go right. And if you want to jump, you need to actually catch hold of the Blob and sling it.

This gets very uncomfortable for initial levels, but you get used to it after some time. Well that’s a different story, but it will disappoint many players who are used to control two different things with two different fingers. I wonder why Nokia did not use the accelerometer for changing direction. That way users would have loved to tilt their phones rather than swiping and hitting the Windows or the Search button all the time.

Now Mark points out that there is a Tilt control available in settings but he prefers a thumbsticks or virtual D-pad. I would really agree there too.

What I really like ?

So if, you get used to that kind of control, you are going to just fall in love with the levels. They aren’t just lovely and beautiful, but they are fun to play as well. A nice background music keeps you up thought the game, and unlike Mario, you have unlimited life unless you wish to quit.

Since  physics is one of the key factor here, you need to make sure how to handle the Blob when slinging it. The best part which I like is that you can change direction of the blob when its floating. This helps you gather more fruits, and score high

I haven’t bought the game so I cannot talk about what’s deep inside the levels but a trial version makes sure that you get the feel of the game completely. I will suggest you to try it before buying it.
