Nokia has always rocked MWC even when it was rocking the Lumia Phone, and the company kept the hipe up with its recent lineup of Nokia Android Phones and resurrected Nokia 8810. Yup, the banana phone is back which you have got the slider, and does the “Dare or Truth” bottle magic.
When Nokia started with Android series, they always opted for Pure Android experience with constant updates that has surpassed all expectation if you are one of those who always looks for the latest updates. At MWC 2018, Nokia has joined the Android One bandwagon which is the companies next step for consumer experience. But lets first talk about Nokia 8810.
Nokia 8810 4G + Rear Camera:
If you are one of those guys who grew up with Nokia, 8810 is one phone to get hyped about. Resurrecting old iconic phones is one of the key strategies to keep the consumer space excited, and Nokia did it again.
Priced at Euro 79 ( approx 6.5K INR) has been launched with Qualcomm Snapdragon 205, 512 MB RAM, 4Gb internal storage, 1500 mAh battery, and with 4G LTE support. It houses a 2 MP rear camera with LED Flash. You get a Hotspot feature as well which makes it perfect companion phone for connecting multiple devices.
The phone features Polycarbonate shell with smooth slider motion and houses a 2.4” curved display. It has IP 52 certification i.e. Drip protection.
The phone can run apps like Google Assistant, Snake, Facebook, and other apps with KaiOS on board.
Nokia 8, 7 and 6:
Just before you start reading ahead, IMO, Nokia 7 and Nokia 6 will get more traction compared to Nokia 8 Sirocco. The primary reason is the camera. Nokia 7 and Nokia 6 should come to India, but their pricing has to be very competitive. Phones from Honor and Xiaomi are already killing it with their pricing and looking at the Euro pricing of Nokia 7 and 6, it’s going to be tough for sure.
Nokia 8 Sirocco
Just like Nokia 8, now we have another flagship Nokia 8 Sirocco. It has a 5.5-inch QHD pOLED curved display, Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5, 3D Glass, and is built out of single block of stainless steel. When it comes to processing, it has Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835, Octa-core (4 x 2.36 GHz Kryo + 4 x 1.9 GHz Kryo), 6 GB RAM, and 128 GB internal storage. It, of course, runs Android Oreo.
In the camera department, you get a dual lens in the rear. The first one is a 12 MP Wide, f/ 1.7 aperture phone, and the second one has 13 MP Tele with f/2.6 aperture. I am expecting this should bring brilliant bokeh effect. There is a dual tone flash as well. The secondary camera aka selfie camera is only a 5 MP camera, which is little disappointing IMO.
That said, the phone has also ditched 3.5 mm, Audio Jack. It has three microphones and a single speaker with Smart Amp
The phone has USB Type C for fast charging along with Fingerprint Sensor and other sensors including ALS/PS, G-sensor, E-compass, Gyro, Hall sensor, Barometer. You also get Bluetooth® 5.0, ANT+
Nokia has put in an integrated 3260 mAh battery with Qi Wireless Charging support.
The phone will cost you €749 which is approximately Rs 56,000 approx, and I am expecting this phone to launch under 50K in India.
Nokia 7 Plus
That said, now let’s talk about Nokia 7 Plus which is going to the demanding phone in India along with Nokia 6. Nokia 7 Plus is powered by a Snapdragon 660, 4 GB RAM, and offers 2 days of battery life with 3800 mAh. The phone offers premium build quality with its 6 layers of ceramic feel paint, built from a single block of aluminum, and edges are diced twice to keep the premium feel.
The phone offers a 6″ full-HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. When it comes to the camera, Zeiss optics is what you should look at. It has a dual camera in the rear with 12MP wide-angle ZEISS camera, 13MP telephoto ZEISS camera, while the front camera is a 16 MP front camera with ZEISS optics
This device costs €399(approx 30K for India), and it will be available this April.
While Nokia 7 is somewhere between Midrange-high range, Nokia 6 makes it place in the low-end midrange with €279. While the conversion takes us to Rs 22,000, I am guessing Nokia 6 will be aggressively priced under 20K to compete with likes Honor and Xiaomi Phones.
It is powered by Snapdragon 630, with 3Gb RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage. It’s a 5.5” IPS LCD, full-HD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, 16:9, and Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 protection.
When it comes to Audio, you get a 3.5 mm Audio jack with a single speaker, and two microphones with Nokia OZO audio. In the camera department, you get a 16MP PDAF, 1.0um, f/2, dual-tone flash, and front camera has an 8MP FF, 1.12um, f/2. You get USB Type-C with all sensors and 3000 mAH Battery.
This reminds of the Asha series which was launched by Nokia at MWC 2014. The phone costs around $85 and is powered by a MediaTek MT6737M processor, 1GB RAM, a 5MP primary camera, 8GB storage, and a 2150mAh battery. Nokia is targetting the developing countries with this.
