Nokia Music Rebranded as Nokia MixRadio; Better Interface and Region Detection
Looks like after the merger between Nokia and Microsoft was finalized yesterday, Nokia has started rebranding few services which could be in direct conflict with existing Microsoft service. Start with Nokia Music which seems to be getting rebranded as Nokia MixRadio which directly conflicts with Xbox Music. We got this hint because Nokia Music App just got updated with a new name.
How does the new app looks like?
The new app has been completely rebuilt because when you launch you are first asked to add your favorite artists which you can skip to get into the app and here comes the surprise. The first section is set of beautifully arranged tiles with your mixes pinned if any. The next section gives you access to find mixes, create a new mix, favorites, local music and offline mixes. Right next to it is the search section to find the music you love. This list box auto completes and gives suggestion as you type in.
Regional Detection Is Better Now
One of the major issue with Nokia Music was region dependency. So if I had a phone from UK, I cannot access local music in India even if I have the SIM from India or country set as India. However with this update, I am able to at least view local content as It is checking SIM, Regional Settings and Nokia Account together instead of just relying on Nokia Account.
Though I am still not able to download regional songs or offline mixes as as of now it says “There was a problem registering your phone for your unlimited downloads subscription. Try again in a moment. If the problem continues contact Nokia Support. Looks like I need to get in touch with them.
For some reason, I don’t see a buy option anywhere in the new app which again matches with my idea of conflict with Xbox Music. I will have more details on this tomorrow.
Update: You need use the same country in your Nokia account as your device origin.

We also have an invite of the event Nokia Music is organizing tomorrow at NY, USA, though we will be watching it online. The launch is at 8:30PM IST tomorrow. So keep an eye on it.
