Video: How Nokia Store & Third Party Store work on Nokia X Series

Nokia X even though built using ASOP or the android platform does not have the standard Google Play Store installed. This means you will not be able to install apps from there. Keeping this in mind, Nokia has its own store which they just call it as STORE which has a list of applications compatible to Nokia X that a user can install.

Also, Nokia Developer team allows third-party developers or store makers to get their store into Nokia X Store if they publish it as an APP. Once certified and if they have configured their app store as per SDK, people can get access to their store as well.

So when you make a search in the X Store, it first looks into the official Nokia store for that app. In case it doesn’t find it, it will eventually list you the app stores that have those apps. However you will have to search again in the store which you launch from the suggestion.

Important to note that if apps from any third-party developer or side loaded call any of the google services, they might work completely. So for an example, when you install the Instagram app on Nokia X, geo-tagging doesn’t work because it uses Google Maps API to do that.

We will have a word with the DX team who are behind the programming and know the API features and limits. Couple of questions like how the app store from third-party get listed and if the search query can be passed on instead of doing a double search. Also its important to know the basis of listing the store i.e. keyword based or are the apps in the app store are indexed some way.
